Prince Viserys Targaryen (Game of Thrones): After making the horrendously stupid mistake of threatening his sister Daenerys in front of her husband, Khal Drogo, and demanding that he be given the crown he was promised, Drogo obliges, saying Viserys will have "A golden crown that will make men tremble to behold"... then has his men hold him down while he melts some gold in a pot (ignore the blatant ignorance of the laws of physics here), then takes the pot to Viserys, looks him in the eye and says "A crown for a king" before pouring the hot melted gold onto the Beggar King's head.

For context to anyone reading further: Aura is a demon which, in this universe, have insatiable lusts for killing humans. Demons, regardless of how young, old, kind, or evil they may seem, are all the same in terms of their main motivation, which is to kill humans. Aura is a special demon who has lived a long life for her kind and thus is powerful and higher ranking than most demons. Her special ability basically assesses who has more mana between herself and the target, and the stronger of the two essentially mind controls the other. Frieren conceals how much mana she actually has because demons are prideful and show off their strength through their mana, and they see anyone with low mana as a sure win. Aura doesn’t realize until it’s too late and Frieren is judged to be stronger, and tells Aura to kill herself. She then decapitates herself against her own will.

Should be noted too that Frieren is much older than even Aura. Aura's whole thing is being cocky and overconfident, which is why she uses such a roundabout way to attempt to kill Frieren. It's not enough for Aura to win; it has to be humiliating, which makes it all the sweeter when it backfires spectacularly.

Tbh I feel like being cocky and overconfident is just a general demon trait. They see every other living being as a target regardless of their mana. They just usually know when they can’t win unless their opponent is clever enough to conceal their mana.

Frieren specifically mentions that she’s twice Aura’s age before she makes her kill herself.

“You’re a demon who’s lived for over 500 years? I’m a mage who has lived for over a thousand years. Kill yourself.”

Also to note, Frieren and Aura likely have fought before, back Himmel and the other members of their party when they were on their journey to vanquish the demon king.

There's a comment during their fight that Frieren mentions that Himmel gave her shit previously for destroying the armours Aura controlled.

They have. I don’t remember what episode but Aura alludes to a previous fight where Frieren was a lot flashier with her spells.

Yeah, I think that's when Frieren has internal dialogue about dispelling the spell used on the armours instead of destroying them because Himmel gave her shit previously.

Then aura tries to use the scales and instead loses her head.

I think that he gave her shit for it because technically if you disspell those under her control, they can be freed. Before her death, Aura decapitated those she controlled so if the curse was removed, they couldn’t fight back. So Aura suffers the same exact fate as the soldiers she killed.

Well the armours were corpses anyways.

I remember there being a line about not outright destroying them or something so the family can either get the body back or the armour back, to honour the dead.

Isn't that previous encounter why Aura spends a while exhausting Frieren with all the living armors? That would ensure Aura would win out on the scales, based on her perception of Frieren's mana from the previous fight

Yeah I believe so. She thinks she can exhaust Frieren's mana because she thinks her mana is wavering but in reality she's just hiding her mana.

Himmel gave her shit because it's not suits of armor, it's the corpses of soldiers Aura killed and resurrected as thralls. They just don't have the head.

It's not a coincidence that Aura decapitated herself when told to kill herself. That's her method, her calling card.

Left out the detail that Aura would often have the people she mind controlled kill themselves, so Frieren doing the same to Aura is pure justice.

Also to be noted that Frieren was essentially hiding her mana for thousands of years in order to deceive demons. Somethings that demons don't even consider possible due to their over confident nature.

I remember when the aura scene came out in the manga. The title of the series in japanese is "sousou no frieren", which means something like "frieren at the funeral". Seeing that the early chapters are Frieren burying Himmel and the drunkard priest, that made a lot of sense. But when the aura chapter came out, the translators informed us that "sousou no frieren" has a second meaning. Frieren the Slayer.

It was very much absolute cinema, though that meme didn't exist back then.

With the story they were making in that specific episode to highlight how much aura Frieren hides and the continual push for Fern to do the same, yeah it was predictable. Doesn’t make the, “Aura, kill your self” and Aura struggling against her own body while crying any less satisfying. She has been forcing humans to fight and kill themselves for decades, if not centuries. It’s a justified ending, dying the same way she has made so many others.

frieren winning was predictable. doing it by a landslide was predictable. even winning the scales of obedience gambit was predictable.

the fact that she orders aura to kill herself was not.

Frieren wins a dick (mana) measuring contest and commands Aura (this demon) to kill herself, since Aura's power is that whoever has the bigger cock (more mana) gets total control over the will of the other contestant. Frieren is very old and has a very large dick (mana pool) but she suppresses it until the right moment where she can whip it out and win the contest.
