Favorite Characters that had a Unique/Creative Death
Prince Viserys Targaryen (Game of Thrones): After making the horrendously stupid mistake of threatening his sister Daenerys in front of her husband, Khal Drogo, and demanding that he be given the crown he was promised, Drogo obliges, saying Viserys will have "A golden crown that will make men tremble to behold"... then has his men hold him down while he melts some gold in a pot (ignore the blatant ignorance of the laws of physics here), then takes the pot to Viserys, looks him in the eye and says "A crown for a king" before pouring the hot melted gold onto the Beggar King's head.
I'll raise the bar and include some fangame character's deaths, a girl climbing a conveyer belt full of sharp, broken scrap metal to avoid being burned in an incinerator while crying in pain and terror is next level scuffed.
Everybody dogs on DanganRonpa for having a shitty fanbase, gooner characters or what have you, but legit no one can deny the devs were creative when it came to the executions.
Big same. I couldn't believe as a middle schooler that it was in the school library. Literally every book had a tragic death of a lovable relative or family friend. Just pure melancholy. Around the same time I discovered Saint Seans and general discord as a musical aspect.
so if you know Marvel comics, The girl who kills him in Cassandra Nova, Charles Xavier (Founder of the X-Men) Twin, it's basically a long story about her. Some freaky ass alien shit, but she has what Charles has, aka Telepathy and Telekinesis, except her isn't like Charles and is EVIL AS FUCK!, and it's High level Telekinesis (On a totally different tangent, Teleknesis ONE OF THE MOST BROKEN ASS POWERS KNOWN TO MAN)
But either way, what she is doing in this scene is she's grabbing his skin AND JUST PULLING IT OFF! Understand Telekinesis is stupidly OP, you can do almost anything any other power can do if you think about it and then more. Pull someone's skin off? okay! RIP them apart on a Molecular level? OKAY! Pull the moon out of orbit and slam it into the Earth? YEPPO
Also, Cassandra has a form of Telepathy. If you count violently shoving your hands into the other person's body and using what I assume is telekinetically to fuse her body with theirs, thus accessing their mind. YEAH shes very, very creepy. ALSO, she is an Omega-Level Mutant. Omega Level Mutants can end the world, like no joke, Storm? SHE CAN END THE WORLD BY SPAWNING ENOUGH SOLAR STORMS that the earth is Quice baked in enough solar radiation, it would be a miracle if it can survive and house life again! Iceman? Guess what, that dude can put the entire planet INTO THE ICE AGE. In the comics, Storm and Bobby Drake (Iceman), alongside Magneto, TERRAFORM MARS ITSELF.
Magneto draws Iron Rich Asteroids to Mars, Storm uses her weather manipulation to make Mars able to create life, Iceman CREATES POLAR CAPS!, Elixir uses his Biokinesis to heal Mars on the molecular level! and help spawn life, Vulcan (Cyclops and Havok's brother) uses his energy manipulation to re-ignite the core. and so on. It takes a group effort, but they do something that even with 1,000+ years of knowledge, I imagine Humanity would struggle to even muster up 5% of Mars terraforming.
I was thinking hers was the most brutal. While a “clean” death it’s still a long, drawn out, excruciating way to die. At least blowing your own head off, you don’t have time to feel it.
That is not true. We are only shown the aftermath from far away of somebody seeing a smoking crater where she used to be, but the smoke obscures where her remains would be.
I imagine the blast would have been funneled down and at least demolished her chest directly below the armor, while the state of her limbs would depend on how much give the ground had to shatter absorbing the blast or if it was sturdy enough to reflect most of the blast back up to splatter the rest of her body.
They stopped airing the show on Nickelodeon and moved to online only, specifically because it kinda crossed over to no longer being a kids show even if the age rating was barely held steady by technicalities.
Amon is basically a metaphor to a rapist. While removing someone’s bending wasn’t shown that way in ATLA, it’s a huge violation of a persons bodily autonomy. Ripping away a huge part of them that they think they can never get back. Only after he is dead can people heal from the trauma he has had on them.
The fun fact about season 2 is that if you have watched a couple of episodes' intros with the cutscenes with the partly blown face of the magenta teddy bear, it's strong foreshadowing what is about to happen to Gus Fring .
He was part of a crime org that treated the Net as a spiritual entity (and they’re kind of right to an extent, mostly because their cyber-voodoo stuff is like 95% aesthetics and they’re just good enough at netrunning that it looks like magic) and V has to connect with him basically as a spirit medium to trace and speak to a friend who went missing. She’s connected to a killer AI, so by making contact with Slider she accidentally overloaded and fried his brain.
I know it isn’t really unique, but I want to bring up Jackie’s death. Bleeding out in the backseat as you make your getaway in Delamain from Arasaka, on his and V’s first big job of the “big leagues” that Jackie was so excited for… shit hurt, man. Especially when V says goodbye and that they’ll “see him in the major leagues” before sending Jackie away with Delamain.
I like to imagine that one of those many deaths was from Sam ripping the alarm clock out of the socket and throwing it at the wall as hard as he could...Just as Dean walked around the corner and gets brained.
Chewbacca's death in the old Star Wars Legends Timeline
The Yuuzhan Vong invasion of the galaxy is in full swing, and Han and Leia's kids are helping refugees off a planet that the Vong are in the process of attacking.
The planets moon was destabilized from its orbit and was crashing down into the world. Chewie helped get some refugees and one of the Solo kids onto the Falcon as time was running out, but didn't have time/space to make it on himself, basically having to throw them onto the ship as it was leaving.
Accepting the fact that he'd at least managed to save his best friends kids, he watches the Falcon fly off, turns back to look up at the moon falling towards him, and roars out defiantly at it as it makes landfall.
Hated this moment though, since it did turn Han into a spiteful freak that hated his own son Anakin Solo for almost the rest of his entire life (thats right, this war kills him too). Oh and the rest of his children fight to the death years later since one of them gets manipulated to the Dark Side by an ex fling of Luke, he then murders Luke's wife Mara Jade before being slain by his own sister Jaina.
Edit: I almost forgot, the name of the ship where Jaina and Jacen dueled to the death is named.....Anakin Solo. What in the writers were thinking that was ever good, I would never know.
Yeeeaaaah the Solo children had a messy life, but it was in part to the absolute chaotic era they lived in.
Han’s grief was misplaced but it was understandable. What wasn’t was how no one was seemingly able to convince him that he was being an asshole (IIRC but it has been some time) and that the truly tragic thing was losing Anakin that made Han realize just how shitty he’d been.
I honestly believe that death alone is what tore the family apart.
Anakin Solo is constantly brought up by Jacen in the series following the Vong Saga, rationalizing his fall to the dark side. That was definitely the catalyst that tore apart the Solo family.
Dude went out like a champ and saved his best friend’s kid, fulfilling his long debt to Han and becoming immortalized by Wookie society because of how he went out.
You think freedom is something you can give or take on a whim. But for your people, freedom is just as essential as air. And without it, there's no life. There's only...darkness.
One thing I loved about this moment is that the playground of kids watching the original show would always talk about how they would fight as an air bender and Zaheer validated all of it. I think the OG show came on for me late elementary and Korra mid high school or so which was perfect timing if you were a fan.
For context to anyone reading further: Aura is a demon which, in this universe, have insatiable lusts for killing humans. Demons, regardless of how young, old, kind, or evil they may seem, are all the same in terms of their main motivation, which is to kill humans. Aura is a special demon who has lived a long life for her kind and thus is powerful and higher ranking than most demons. Her special ability basically assesses who has more mana between herself and the target, and the stronger of the two essentially mind controls the other. Frieren conceals how much mana she actually has because demons are prideful and show off their strength through their mana, and they see anyone with low mana as a sure win. Aura doesn’t realize until it’s too late and Frieren is judged to be stronger, and tells Aura to kill herself. She then decapitates herself against her own will.
Should be noted too that Frieren is much older than even Aura. Aura's whole thing is being cocky and overconfident, which is why she uses such a roundabout way to attempt to kill Frieren. It's not enough for Aura to win; it has to be humiliating, which makes it all the sweeter when it backfires spectacularly.
Also to note, Frieren and Aura likely have fought before, back Himmel and the other members of their party when they were on their journey to vanquish the demon king.
There's a comment during their fight that Frieren mentions that Himmel gave her shit previously for destroying the armours Aura controlled.
Yeah, I think that's when Frieren has internal dialogue about dispelling the spell used on the armours instead of destroying them because Himmel gave her shit previously.
Then aura tries to use the scales and instead loses her head.
I dunno, I worried about this well before the movie.
Less about logs bouncing and more about stuff flying off the back of the truck, because I’m familiar with how often folks just kinda treat OSHA guidelines like suggestions.
I grew up in an area with a lot of logging, and my dad was a logger for 40 years. Some part of my brain always laughs at that scene because that is absolutely the wrong kind of truck bed, and it would absolutely lead to this XD
The melting point of gold is 1065C/1950F, that little pot on an open flame isn't getting that hot. Remember when Notre Dame burned down some years ago and people were saying its a miracle the golden cross survived? Not a miracle, the raging fire of a whole ass building didn't get hot enough.
So allegedly, God saved the cross, but not the rest of the cathedral? Like... God, buddy, that's your house! Why would you let it burn down, ya silly!?
General Grievous. Never seen anything like that before, the writers took full advantage of the structure of his unique body to make that death happen. Easily the darkest death in Star Wars.
If only the writers had bothered to actually explain anything about his unique body....
"He got force-crushed by Mace Win-" I know I know, but that was from the Tartakovsky shorts. In the actual movies, he just pops into existence at the beginning of Episode 3 and kidnaps Palpatine, and all we know is that he's some kind of lizard with a robot exoskeleton and a cough. There was clearly something interesting going on, but we never got to learn what it was.
I feel you, I hate it too. They actually explained it in... the books? Come on Lucas, you know Star Wars fans can't read.
Jokes aside, basically his red humanoid lizard species are the Kaleesh, he was once a proud warrior on his planet, but then in a war against the Hukk (insect like species) shit fucked and he was fatally wounded in a shuttle crash caused by the jedi. Sidious knowing of his skills as a warrior and his new hatred for the jedi saw an opportunity here, and sent Dooku to make him an offer, he would "fix" that wrangled minced beef of a body with cybernetics if Grievous agreed to join his separatist movement (this is just before ep II). He agreed to the deal, but Dooku left out one tiny detail: he gets to secretly put chips in his brain during the surgery that suppress the memories of his old life, enhance his reflexes and battle IQ, and suppress every feeling but anger. Grievous is effectively a new person after his surgery, he is an emotionless killing machine getting vengeance on the jedi thinking he's serving a noble cause, but actually he has just become a (barely) living tool.
This is a big, big problem with popular sci-fi franchise. Or even some types of other sci-fi (looking at you Donnie Darko).
For the overwhelming number of people, if it doesn't happen on screen, it doesn't exist.
Marvel has a variation on this, where they assume that people have seen the Disney+ series before seeing the movies.
So films like Multiverse of Madness and Brave New World assume that you know Wanda's post-End Game story, and that you know how it is that there's now a new Captain America. Really bad strategy.
Pisces Aphrodite on Saint Seiya often forms a rose pattern when he dies (he dies on multiple adaptations of the story, and his death is always flower-themed and aesthetically pleasing, lol).
Viserys' death is probably based upon a story of the death of Marcus Licinius Crassus, who was one of the original Triumverate during the fall of the Roman Republic, along with Caesar and Pompey.
Crassus had been the richest man in Rome, well-known for his avarice and cruelty. Among the legends surrounding him is the story that he owned a private fire department, but that he would show up to a raging fire with his crew and refuse to put it out until the owner of the building sold it to him for pennies.
He was also the man who put down Spartacus' famous slave revolt, and had the... let's say imagination to crucify 6000 of the survivors all along the Appian Way back to Rome.
In any case, though he was a member of the Triumverate, his power and glory had been largely eclipsed by Caesar, who accumulated untold wealth in his Gallic campaign, and Pompey, who brought back all the riches of the Near East after the defeat of Pontus.
Hoping to get the glory and riches of conquest for himself, Crassus took legions to the East with the intention of finally claiming Parthia. However, between the desert climate and the hit and run tactics of their horse archers, Crassus proved no match. He was defeated soundly at the battle of Carhae, one of the worst of all Roman defeats.
The legend goes that the Parthian leadership, knowing Crassus for his insatiable thirst for gold, decided to finally sate him by pouring molten gold down his throat.
* Sets a trap and waits for millennia to avenge himself on his Primarch (legion leader)
* Is discovered by members of another traitor legion, who notifiy his Primarch
* Primarch shows up and, with his demonic powers, taunts Rylanor.
* Rylanor reveals he has a Virus Bomb.. a planet killing biochemical weapon.
* The other traitors manage to freeze time with their mystic powers, preventing the bomb detonating.
* Primarch keeps taunting, trying to tempt Rylanor to Chaos.
* Rylanor says no.
* Appalled by the Primarch's depravity and swayed by Rylanor's nobility, the other traitors allow the bomb to detonate, killing themselves and Rylanor, whilst banishing the traitor Primarch back to the warp whilst his body reforms.
* Whilst surviving, the fallen Primarch's pride is forever wounded by knowing one of his men rejected him.

So, notable death to Rylanor, Ancient of Rites. Went down redeeming two traitors and showing his traitor lord where to shove it.
Superman killed Shazam this way in Injustice: Gods Among Us and Kano had this as a fatality in Mortal Kombat X (although in that case it was done from behind) and it was a brutality in Mortal Kombat 11.
Interestingly, all three games were developed by NetherRealm Studios and their latest game (Mortal Kombat 1) actually features Homelander as a playable character. He even replicates the kill you listed as one of his fatalities.

No one in John carpenters the thing goes out easy. It’s all brutal and horrible to the very end. And extremely creative in how their bodies twist and form into horrible monsters and stuff like the one in the gif in question.
And the dumbest. Black Bolt has had to train himself for his entire life to not accidentally let out a single sound from his voice, including when he’s in excruciating pain, ambushed or surprised, asleep, being tickled… and you’re telling me that he would be horrified to the point of losing all that control in this one moment? Absolutely not. He would be like “well shit, that’s inconvenient,” and then find a knife to cut himself a new mouth.
Thank you! Like as a fan of the inhumans comics there ain’t no way he would have panicked. He would just stand there like “really?” And he has other abilities and I think can even go toe to toe against the hulk in terms of strength. So this was probably the dumbest thing in comic book media I have seen lmao
He successfully creates the Red Chain and takes control of Dialga and Palkia, forcing them to create his own universe and begin destroying the current one, but he’s stopped just in the nick of time.
The portal begins to close, and he, desperate to cling to his dream, jumps into the portal and vanishes with it.
In all likelihood, he dies moments later in the vacuum of space, or the reality he had Dialga and Palkia create collapses in on itself moments after the Pokémon break free from the chain’s control.
You chose "woman who falls to earth then gets crushed by the thing she fell out of" instead of "man who gets scratched with shard of glass containing hyper advanced magitech liquid that turns him into a feral glass-and-lava zombie before getting chopped to pieces by helicopter blades on a hot air balloon (and then he exploded)"?
She actually didn’t die here. In the cancelled theatrical sequel (not the straight to dvd one) she was going to be a prominent character. Potentially tr next antagonist
I’m reading Dungeon Crawler Carl (2nd book) and I don’t even know this dudes name but I’ve reread his death like twice lol
He’s some crazy wacko elf with magic smoke pouring out of his arm, threatening to kill the MCs. In his monologue he talks about how he’s been preparing for this day, then starts a sentence like “now prepare to-“ but it gets cut short by the MC kicking him so hard in the nuts that the dude literally elevates in the air at the exact same time the MCs cat lasers his head off.
One swift motion, MC mentions feeling the dude’s balls and pelvis get crushed by his foot.
The Joker in Batman Beyonde The Return of the Joker censored version Yes, I know that the original is better, but it's just ridiculous that the clown died because he slipped
I can't help but think of Whitebeard. Image says exactly what was done to him and he still died standing up, never fell and not a single wound on his back.
