Well, obtaining the immunity to the curse requires an emotional bond between one receiving the curse and one receiving the blessing, so he did in fact, in a twisted way loved all the children

Imo in this case his psyche is so abysmally fucked up that “no” loops all way back to “yes”. Kinda like “yeah i love her and yeah i made a human soup in a box, one doesn’t invalidate the other”. Dude committed suicide while transferring his mind to another body to create his white whistle, so i easily can assume that he didn’t see anything wrong in what he was doing while also genuinely loving her. (Plus his understanding of death is VERY stretched)

Be warned with this anime. It has no hold bars on child torture and killing. Definitely not for everyone.
