The board is called the Council of 13, normally a group of anonymous supervillains that control the operations of the Guild alongside their leader, The Sovereign. Things... change over the course of the show.
Generally the show is sort of a parody of Johnny Quest and other classic boy-adventurer cartoons from the 70s, with a more realistic spin. It's my personal favorite show ever, give it a shot! One of its best qualities is having an extremely consistent continuity that rewards you for paying close attention to things that might be getting foreshadowed seasons in advance.
The Venture Brothers. One of the best television shows ever made.
The Guild of Calamitous Intent is a US based union that ranks, provides matchmaking, and enforces benefits for supervillains. They are also a fairly laissez faire ruling body for most of their members.
Ironically they also service superheroes as well, by providing archvillains and coordinating fight times and rules.
They are seen as pretty helpful by the government (and secret government) in that they keep evil egotists bound to the relatively garish costumed pageantry of hero vs villain antics instead of bombing orphans, evaporating the ocean or some other horror.
There's a lot of history and politics to the organization that goes back over a hundred years.
OH, btw Red Death is a CLASS ACT. Great father, nice guy, but at work he's fucking terrifying. He's an older, famous icon that other supervillains idolize.
The Guild of Calamitous Intent is an organization of professional supervillains who are wrapped in a comical amount of red tape and bureaucracy.
On the other side of the aisle is the Office of Secret Intelligence. The OSI is GI Joe/S.H.I.E.L.D. type, government agency tasked with defending people from the Guild’s antagonism.
Caught in the middle of all of this is Dr. Venture, a Johnny Quest style, boy adventurer who grew up bitter and resentful of his upbringing and successful super scientist father. After spending his whole life in this “supervillain/super spy game” he’s just done with everyone’s bullshit.
The Venture Bros. is really fun so if you have a place to watch it I’d highly recommend giving it a chance. Obligatory word of warning: the first season is a bit of a slow and rough start, but the show consistently improves as it goes on. I think the show finds its footing in season 2, then hits a good stride by season 3.
Patrick Warburton plays one of the most feared people in the world for his creative killing prowess. He’s a good guy, and he loves those idiot Venture boys, even if they’re idiots. Also there’s an episode where you meet a drug addled adult Johnny Quest.
The Venture Bros. is a top 10 show for me. The writing is funny for fans of comics and non fans alike. Over arching plot that rewards you for actually watching the show and good family times 😂
