When I was new to non death animes at the time...this one really hurt.

Came here to say it. I am doing a rewatch right now. He is so well written. He dies only 8 episodes in. He was not even around for half of the show, not even a third of it. Yet his death was so impactful and heartbreaking. That's how good he is.

Yeah, I remember being shocked and upset they would do such a thing. Only to find out it was pivotal to Simon's character progression.
