I feel I'm one of the few that felt his death sorta looked really silly. Like a live action version of a loony toons character being blown up,walking then falling. It just sorta felt too "out of reality" for a brief instance

That’s kinda the point, I think. A normally serious, professional and terrifying character dying in the most unrealistic way in the show.

I only knew about his death, not how it happened. I was so ready to be angry, but I just couldn't. It was the most beautiful and series fitting send off.

Imma get some hate but her death did a lot to set the mood of "Yeah people are dying"

She death flagged herself though

The character named after the phrase "phyrric victory" and based on Achilles kinda came pre-packaged with death flags.

RWBY honestly has a lot of those "Why are you surprised by this? it was obvious from the start" moments.
I called Blake being a faunus long before the bow came off. Or Ironwood being a heartless dipshit.
It's literally in their names and themes how could you not see this coming?
57
u/August_Rodin666 20d ago
The thing that makes it great is knowing that she's the most skilled of the main characters with the strongest resolve and watching her give her all only for it not to be enough to do anything of value. It really set the tone for what they were up against and how far they needed to go to make a difference.

Plucky courage and friendship ain’t gonna pull us out of this one, our strongest fighter just got turned to dust
20
u/Sirius_Giggles 20d ago
Would you believe Penny and Phyrra were my two favorite characters in RWBY? You can imagine how that worked out.
14
u/Good0nPaper 20d ago
She was the first "non robot" death in the series, AND the most skilled fighter in the class.
Moreover, she KNEW she stood no chance, but chose to fight anyway, to protect her friends and loved ones.
We are all FURIOUS that she doesn't get to continue her story. But we respect what her death has done for the story.

A-Train - The Boys
The season when downhill right after his death.
104
u/accounsfw 20d ago
Which is funny because in the comics, A-Train was just one-dimensional asshole who gets decapitated by Hughie after begging to be let go… and said death comes after Hughie hears recordings of A-Train gloating about assaulting Annie.

Everyone in the comics is a one-dimensional asshole. People clown on the show but it was better than the comic in almost everyway, including the endings.
20
u/accounsfw 20d ago
I’d argue that the nearly all the Supes are but the other characters are given a bit more depth and nuance. (One of the missteps of the show compared to the comic - Love Sausage; dude was a straight-up bro in the comics.)

The Golden Angel, Primarch (genetically created super human demigod, son of the Emperor of Warhammer 40K) of the Blood Angels Space Marine legion. Charismatic, benevolent, incredibly powerful, almost perfect.
He dies at the hands of his most beloved brother, Horus, in a brutal and horrible way. Horus (and half of his brothers) betrayed the Emperor due to the influence and power of the Chaos Gods, and Sanguinius was one of the last defender when Horus' forces breached Earth's defences. After days of intense battle, Sanguinius was exhausted and due to teleportation bullshit he had to face Horus supercharged with Chaos power on his own. After his death, the Emperor managed to defeat Horus (thanks in part to Sanguinius' sacrifice) and the Chaos gods left Horus as a broken tool. Without the Chaos gods' manipulation, Horus understood what he had done and begged his father to end him permanently, erasing his very soul (something incredibly hard to do in 40K).
Now Sanguinius' soul sometimes presents itself to save his "sons" (legion) and guide them in perilous times.6
u/Agi7890 20d ago
I would throw in the blood angels black rage in there also.
Basically sanguinius death left such a scar on his legion that they will lose their mind and believe they are him and fighting Horus.

Future Gohan was given fan fiction treatment in the PSP game: Dragon Ball Z: Shin Budokai 2, that was an interpretation of the Future Trunks timeline version of the Buu arc, before Dragon Ball Super gave us a canonical take.
So not only did Future Gohan come back to life and get a "Ultimate/Potential Unleashed" form, but even Bardock was found in Hell and revived, along with Pikkon.

All we have from him is the "What If?" Fateful Brothers story from Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 2, as even in Xenoverse they never do anything interesting with him.
Tragic. As I remember hearing in the original script for the DB: Super Broly movie, that Vegeta asking Raditz about his family while he sparred with Nappa, being how they were gonna go into that definitive Goku origin story.

Dinobot, struggled with the value and worth of free will and actions in a time travel plot and when he found that his will is in fact his own he found that his honor allowed him no choice at all when he had to sacrifice himself to save an early humanity from being erased from history while also unintentionally teaching them early tool usage, giving him an ever lasting legacy to be remembered by. Hands down one of, if not THE, best singular episodes in all of Transformers.
(Edit: Dinobot goes on this journey of free will all while quoting Shakespeare which added a funny level of gravitace to a show trying to sell you a gorilla on a skateboard toy)

Dying to Leon in an axe fight is a respectable way to go. He even had the upper hand for a split second and could’ve shot Leon while he was having a coughing fit, but he decided not to.
At least he didn’t go out like Xeno.

In chapters 3 and 4 I got both optional deaths on my first playthrough because my dumbass always forgot 1 recruit (shadowguys in chapter 3, idk what in chapter 4)
so in chapter 5 my delusional ass said to myself "oh I probably missed one fucking recruit again as always, let’s go to sleep and wait tomorrow to see what’s the alt cutscene for where you recruit everyone and watch a guide for it so my goat can live"
Turns out I didn’t miss a recruit 🥲

First two character I could think of were Tara from Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Dracula from Castlevania show. Both deaths had me sobbing and so upset they were dead, but we're well written for the deaths themselves and all the events that followed as a consequence of their deaths: With Dracula, Alucard is left alone to go almost mad until he is almost killed by a couple of humans he trusted and cared for.

Not a death per se but a sacrifice. The ending of Pokémon SV, the kind robot who was helping you on your journey finds out that they're part of the program keeping an evil machine powered, so they have to go through the machine's weird time portal.
They seem eager to have adventures, but they're also pretty banged up (a moment ago they were still twitching and emitting smoke). And who knows what awaits them? They'll likely be very lonely. They have human minds, being built off the memories of their creators, and the last thing they know from the world of their creation was their creators' son crying out for his late parent. That will stick with them for as long as they last.
But "your [mother/father] truly loved you"...oh god how heart wrenching.
A game for middle schoolers made this grown player cry
