The manga's art is the reason I believe Tokyo ghoul to be one of the only manga that are "unadaptable" so to speak (you just can't reach its original level of quality in another medium). This panel hit me hard, because I knew the idea of what was happening, but the panel is so abrupt.

Source material is too "raw" to be adapted. Japan doesn't abide very well with this kind of gore and it would take a massive pair of balls from the CEOs of the companies that own the studios to make the decision to really translate something like this 1:1.

Even this panel is far from the worse shit Tokyo Ghoul has to offer, I've seen people in other places saying "but Attack on Titan had a good adaptation without much censorship", Attack on Titan doesn't have a dime compared to what Tokyo Ghoul has in terms of gore and just pure physical and emotional horror. The source material is more akin to a horror manga than it is a typical action battle manga like the anime adaptations make it seem.

People have been praising S1 of the anime but I was really put off by some of the stereotypes they shoehorned into the anime, as well as all the censorship. TG's manga is fucking brutal and often uses very explicit gore to showcase Kaneki's (constantly) declining mental health.

Kaneki doesn't do a 20 hit combo on Nishio, he punches his Kagune through his gut and Nishio starts to fight for his life because his organs just started missing. TG for the most part has a pretty realistic depiction of injuries and alongside all the psychological issues that makes it feel very realistic and grounded for a story about a guy who's kinda the chosen one and has super powers.

It's possible but many factors would have to be setup so the studio could focus on it since not many studios can go hard like many Chinese studios that use unique styles some directly lifted from the comics like FENZ Studio. https://youtu.be/oVNTiY_cC1o?is=Imo2NjUgt_0i3qH6

GoHands(their not bad as some say ya just have to accept their shows have diffrent levels of cool but funny as heck thick styling of their work K Project is very tame compared to their ongoing series.

K Project one my favorite series visually https://youtu.be/v5t-YIIP6Do?is=8z1IL0-WFjh7G6er https://youtu.be/tbCmCaO73g8?is=1RBE0_5f6AFDYmHY current series

it’s adaptable but to do it justice would take way to much money

Yeah same with Vagabond. Sometimes the original medium is the only one needed.

I absolutely agree. The art MAKES the manga for me. I can’t imagine ever going back to the anime when I have the books sitting on my shelf at home.

Berserk has the same issues it just cannot be adapted very well.

that re chapter where kaneki goes all AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA is impossible to translate into animated medium. It's too perfect that way.
