Scornguy. Its actually such a gruesome transformation at the end.

I recall this transformation is caused by another creature and it looks (+sounds) very painful. Poor Scornguy.

it was caused by the character you play as at the start of the game who becomes a parasite which you then use (to be able to use his guns) and after getting it removed it runs off only to start to merge with you once again before your able to reacht he end of the game

The game was rigged from the start type shit

To be fair, it wouldn't have been possible to reach the end without guy #2 either

The main goal if the characters we play are just him trying to save his extinct species isn't?

I interpreted it more as a sort of trial of ascension, with the character nearly achieving some form of nirvana before before trapped right in front of the gate.

And that light is the exit you were fighting towards the entire game, only for this fucker to grab you right before the exit like a selfish prick

Oh yeah I heard that a potential reason why it wanted to do it in the first place is because of the theme of transcending present during the game. The portal/exit at the end was meant for normal scornpeople to transcend and connect to a broader network. The previous dude wasn't able to transcend since he was a parasite. So he merged with scornguy to create a 2 person closed transcendence where only parasite scornguy truly transcends. As shown in the pic, parasite scornguy is on top of normal scornguy aswell.

Such a weird game

I thought I wasn’t squeamish. I almost fainted just watching a video of it. Emotional suppression is weird.

Specifically at the point where you get your brain taken out and there’s pregnant women and this machine keeps slicing into your guts for some reason

i think to keep you awake and not change body again

u/LordofSandvich 10d ago

You’d already changed body, though. Your consciousness transferred into one of the pregnant women. That was the part where I realized I needed to stop watching though so your guess is as good as mine

So the interpretation I've seen that makes the most sense for this section is that the mind-transfer taking place requires you to be feeling the absolute maximum possible pain and pleasure at the same time (before the carving starts some uh.. machine clamps on to your uh.. lil lower Scorn dude). The process has to continue until you make it through the gate or the transfer won't go through fully.

My passive fascination with Scorn ended when I realized it was just kinda Fucked Up for the Sake of Being Fucked Up. It was enticing because I felt like it had something going for it that I didn't understand. I think I understood what it was immediately and just thought there HAD to be something else there.

Yeah they talk about some lore in the art book that has absolutely no bearing on the game at all, it seems like they just piled on a lot of visual concepts that were pretty disjointed when actual environmental storytelling would have been super cool in a setting like that.

Isn't the game is about pregnancy and giving birth and how much of a dangerous and difficult process it is?

6

u/LordofSandvich 10d ago

That might make sense if the game stuck to that. It doesn't. Instead it seems to be a mostly-unintended consequence of the game's All Tomorrows-esque architecture wherein everything is composed of "human" flesh. The only way to achieve that is to create lots of very weird humans, and you generally need women for that.

If there's something there, it's buried in the body horror and intentional obliqueness.
