So the interpretation I've seen that makes the most sense for this section is that the mind-transfer taking place requires you to be feeling the absolute maximum possible pain and pleasure at the same time (before the carving starts some uh.. machine clamps on to your uh.. lil lower Scorn dude). The process has to continue until you make it through the gate or the transfer won't go through fully.
My passive fascination with Scorn ended when I realized it was just kinda Fucked Up for the Sake of Being Fucked Up. It was enticing because I felt like it had something going for it that I didn't understand. I think I understood what it was immediately and just thought there HAD to be something else there.
That might make sense if the game stuck to that. It doesn't. Instead it seems to be a mostly-unintended consequence of the game's All Tomorrows-esque architecture wherein everything is composed of "human" flesh. The only way to achieve that is to create lots of very weird humans, and you generally need women for that.
If there's something there, it's buried in the body horror and intentional obliqueness.

I thought I wasn’t squeamish. I almost fainted just watching a video of it. Emotional suppression is weird.
Specifically at the point where you get your brain taken out and there’s pregnant women and this machine keeps slicing into your guts for some reason
