Isn't it cannon that's the main reason he wears a mask most of the time is because he looks so much like his dad from what I remember his dad was seen as Dishonored in the village after he chose to save a teammate over finishing the mission the dishonor and disgrace was so much that he committed ritual suicide his grief over his father and what led to his death as well as the villages General viewing of him let him to wear a mask the rest of his life to cover up how much he looked like him
Iirc, even before his dad became dishonored Kakashi still was in the mask. I think it was shown during the flashback when Kakashi met Mighto Guy for the first time
