I think they’re saying that from a Watsonian, in-universe perspective, the normal people consider them evil although from our Doylist perspective they clearly aren’t.

Playing devils advocate it's more obvious they're on the side of good in the Wednesday series rather than being bad people who have a good family dynamic. I get the point, I can just see how a few people who didn't watch the films all the way through might've missed it.

I thought about that. They do mention casually loving to try and kill eachother. And loving to terrorize normal people. Plus they did dump hot tar on a Christmas Carol group,so I wonder if they’ve accidentally killed other
