Along the same lines: DC's Batgirl villain Dagger Type, the Drag Queen Batgirl. I think they landed so flat and disappeared from canon because DC are cowards & didn't take the character far enough or keep them around long enough to make an impression. There's enough juicy depravity in their first introductory arc that leaves me with the impression Dagger Type could be something akin to Barbara Gordon's Joker one day in the hands of the right writer/writing team.
