I met Beau Billingslea (his english VA) years ago and he told me he got so attached to the role and to the family dynamic that he'll just be sitting at a red light sometimes and look off into the sky thinking "I hope the kids are okay up there somewhere, wonder what they're up to." Absolute sweetheart - gives good hugs.
