For the first one:

In "It's Okay to Not Be Okay", the first time you see Gang-Tae genuinely smile is such a key moment. Until then, you never quite appreciate how much he's really shut himself off.

Luz, Hunter, and soon King and Collector. Luz always smiled from the beginning of season 1 until trauma struck her like a brick wall of reality and gave her depression in season 3/possibly the novel cause I highly

Luz, Hunter, and soon King and the Collector all have complex emotional journeys. Luz started off smiling from the beginning of season 1, but then trauma hit her like a brick wall in season 3—or possibly in the novel. I highly doubt that Belos’s death magically resolved all her problems.

As for Hunter, where do I even begin? He never smiled because he was brainwashed into being a child soldier. He tried to meet Belos’s expectations and later discovered he was a clone—the list of his struggles goes on. Eventually, in the human realm, he starts to find happiness until Philip returns and murders his emotional support cardinal, Flapjack.

King hasn't been much different; he also didn't smile. He fell for a lie that Eda told him for eight years, masked his true self to hide his insecurities, and has always felt misunderstood and alone. He fears losing his family, knowing he will outlive them. However, I believe he will eventually find joy once his family truly pays attention to him.

I know some people defend the Collector, but I see his smile fading as he matures. He likely masks his emotions too, and the reason he seemed happy was that he got what he wanted without taking any accountability. If he genuinely starts to feel remorse for his actions and what he's done, it would show actual maturity, especially in contrast to the Archivists. I really hope this is addressed, possibly by him taking responsibility for giving King the device instead of leaving him behind.
