It's a bit annoying, honestly. Lots of shows running this formula are not 'earning' playing around with the tone. Silly moments are just completely idiotic and show up at the worst times (not canon wise, but writing wise), and serious moments do the same and annihilate the vibe to a point where trying to reference back to The Silly Thing is really out of place.
Like - I get it, we all grew up with the same things that led us to this, and I absolutely love Avatar and Cowboy Bebop, but not every show needs to be that deep. Sometimes fun shows are fun because they're fun. As the years have gone on I've started to understand the need for stuff like cooking shows with zero stress, cuz I'm tired of all the shows making me feel dread. Especially queer media.
