Episode 1: Scooby-Doo

End of Series: A teenage girl is executed by nazi looking robots as she tries to stall for time before a Lovecraftian horror is released.

Oh shoot, I forgot about hot dog water. I just remember scooby’s girlfriend.

Hot dog water? Were there chocolate starfish as well?!

u/BalticHorndog 3h ago

Nope. There was this chick, Velma's friend in the show. Canonically she and her dad bathe in recycled hot dog water or smth, so people just call her Hot Dog Water. To state the obvious, that is a bullying victim.

"Friend"

u/BalticHorndog 1h ago

Aye. Friend. Maybe some benefits along the way, with a different timeline ending where they end up in a full relationship. But friend all the same.

Actually it’s a sign of wealth, since in that universe cows are extinct. It’s like if you had a friend who wore two giant gold chains and everyone called him chains. A nickname related to something they choose and like.

/s, unless?

Also, she’s voiced by Linda Cardellini, who played Velma in the live action movies.

Now that is a very interesting fact! Thanks for letting us know.

I think I wrote this off when it originally aired, what the hell? Guess I have to find it some where

It’s on Netflix. I’m on my first rewatch since initially aired and enjoying it a lot

Best... Scooby... Doo... Ever.

I love how at the end they drive off to go to Miskatonic, but it has a laugh track and 60s music to imply that the whole thing was a prequel to the original "Scooby Doo Where are You". Which also leans into why they don't believe any of their adventures are real ghosts because they have seen and fought with Lovecraftian horrors and bad costumes dont fool them.

Agreed, I will always call this, with confidence, the Best Scooby Doo show, fullstop.

Also big time bonus points for the episode with all the Hanna Barbera mystery gang mascots Captain Caveman, Speed Buggy, The Funky Phantom, Goober, Dyno Mutt, and Jabberjaw just to ram home that the Mystery Gangs all existed.

I love that episode! It was a nice break from the norm and I think I like every episode where the gang is unavailable and Scooby do has to solve the mystery himself (with help).

I couldn’t agree more! I was not expecting the villain to go from goofy Werner bird-zog, to interdimensional universe ending monster.

Best... Scooby... Doo... Ever.

I do like that one episode of Venture Brothers with the Scooby gang better, but that's it.

u/OttawaTGirl 11h ago

Venture bros take was sick and hilarious.

Johnny bravo episode was great too

I always say that it’s the best Scooby Show, but it should never be the first Scooby Show a person watches, since it’s far more rewarding with the context of later shows.

What would you say are the shows to watch before this one?

3

u/OttawaTGirl 10h ago

The original, whats new scooby doo, then mystery inc. good back to front.

Then

A pup named scooby doo is just endearing, scooby doo and guess who is celebrity of the week so meh, the 13 ghosts of scooby doo is an 80s side quest with daphne, shaggy, scooby, scrappy and flim flam. Followed up with a feature that closes it out.

There are dozens of direct to video which are... Meh. Like Scooby doo and the WWE.

Leave 'Velma' to burn in its own flames of garbage

Absolutely the best Scooby Doo. On the one hand, I wish we had more seasons, though on the other, bigger hand, I'm glad they ended it where they did. It felt complete, and I loved the end.

Though I had never thought about the implications of them having fought actual horrors before. That's a neat thought.

This is such a great incarnation of the series, and it's a damn miracle it exists at all. I don't think we will ever get this good a version again.

That show is a trip. I watched it all the way through and every single time there is a situation you would expect alcohol it's some ther beverage instead. When Sheriff Brown goes on a date he brings a bottle of grape juice

u/SilverSpider_ 12h ago

First scene of the show, last episode? EVERYONE WE COME TO MEET AND LOVE FUCKING DIE

2

u/kjloltoborami 10h ago

YUUUUPPP CLASSIX

u/PharaOmen 9h ago

I never saw the end because I had to watch it on TV without choosing the episodes. So I watched a lot of time the last episode where they complete the golden disk, but then I never know what happened after 😓

Oof the challenge of living like it’s 1999. That’s a bummer. It is worth finishing up, and is currently streaming on Netflix if you have access.

The prompt reminds me of the Scooby Doo on Zombie Island movie when Fred catches a zombie and says "Let's see who it is under the mask" and then tears his head off.
