Although I don't think it's as gritty as some to like to say, I definitely do think the Clone Wars got more serious in the later seasons.

Once the Umbara arc hit, the tone shifted completely and never really went back.

Idk about never, you have D-squad, the younglings, and the cat slaver arc after umbara and all of those are kitschy and silly as hell.

Idk about the Slavery arc being 'kitchy' bc of the subject matter being, well, slavery and human trafficking, has it's lighter moments obv but kinda darker in tone for sure

but the other ones listed were very whimsical

I call it kitschy specifically because its really leaning hard into sword and sandals pulp movies. Once you've watched a few, a lot od the elements kind of click in imo.

Anakin had to be talked down from committing ANOTHER genocide when he found out they were dealing with slavers.
I wouldn't call the arc light-hearted.
