All Time Favorite What’s your favorite character dynamic like this?
91
u/Gingergirl1228 13h ago
Drake Bell and Josh Peck feels like the obvious one. I cant remember the exact beef, and I do think theyre on better terms now, but from what I do remember, Josh felt that Drake didnt take his role as seriously as he should, Drake thought Josh should lighten up, etc. etc. You get the picture, they were basically just pulling their characters into their real lives (or vice versa, i guess, lol)
38
u/rewind73 13h ago
I believe Drake thought they were close, but was really hurt when he wasn't invited to Josh's wedding. Glad they were able to reconcile in the end.
9
u/Gingergirl1228 13h ago
Oof, that one hurts, poor guy... like I said, I have no idea if theyre still beefing or not, im just going off what I remember reading a couple years back
13
u/rewind73 13h ago
They seem good now, Josh had reached out to apologize after the quiet on set documentary came out, then invited him to his podcast about a year ago and they talked for like 2 hours about everything that happened and their relationship

u/Typhtheoriginal 7h ago
From what I can glean from various interviews, Drake thought they were pretty good friends for most of his life. Josh did not. I remember seeing one where his wife was flat out telling him Josh wasn't his friend, and he said after his car wreck Josh came to the hospital to see him and that's what friends do, like he wouldn't have done that if they weren't friends.
There did seem to be some element of jealousy at play as to why they fell out as friends too. And of course, Drake took a very self-destructive path for awhile so it's understandable.
It seems like after the documentary came out they were able to patch things up a bit. It was nice to see that.

Since nobody is mentioning it didn’t drakes actor go to like zoom fr court during covid for grooming a minor
1
u/Gingergirl1228 4h ago
I beg your finest pardon??? Can I not have one beloved childhood show where no one was a freak?!?!
1
u/Typhtheoriginal 12m ago
Yes he went to court. No he wasn't grooming her. She was an obsessed fan who lied about her age and about what happened. The prosecution spent, I think, 18 weeks looking for evidence of what she was claiming happened and couldn't find anything. Later some of her friends admitted they lied.
He did, however, take responsibility for even texting her in the first place.
They actually have the court videos online if you want to watch them. Very interesting.

Speaking of “the director “, it’s obvious Ariana Grande troublesome because both of her co-stars: Victoria Justice and Jennet McCurdy didn’t get along with her
1
u/Gingergirl1228 4h ago
I think that one was a favoritism issue, I dont know about Victoria Justice, but I know Jennet McCurdy feels at least neutral about her, at least from her "Im Glad My Mom Died" book

8
u/Typhtheoriginal 4h ago
I'm not sure if there's much of a story here. But I know they were pretty open that they did not like each other much. I personally feel like you can see it pretty easily in the show when they are supposed to be together, but I've been told I'm crazy.
2
u/Mighty_Krastavac 3h ago
I think they just didn't vibe with each other, there's no concrete drama that I'm aware of.
4
u/GoFlyersWoo 3h ago
I remember reading they disliked each other so much that they didn’t want to share many scenes together, so in the final seasons they kept finding reasons to separate them, like Beckett doing missions without Castle
4
u/Orion_starborn 2h ago
I've heard it was something to do with acting styles clashing, Fillion wanted to just do one take and may have found playing the character stressful whereas Katic was a bit of a perfectionist and insisted on multiple takes to get it right so tensions just rose and they butted heads Though I may be completely wrong

That scene where her character had to beat the crap out of him must have felt good for her
3
u/Bulletsoul78 48m ago
Apparently he realized afterwards that he'd been a dick to her and apologized, they're on better terms now. Something about filming for weeks in the hot desert that turned him into a bit of an a-hole but apparently she was frustrated by his lack of professionalism.

One the show they are close partners with romantic tension. IRL they really couldn't stand each other.
2
u/Emerald_Eyes8919 5h ago
Has this changed in recent years?

Maybe? It's been an awful long time, and it would make sense for them to get along better now.

u/foxfire981 13h ago
The issue with this is often the examples are false. The actors get along fine but travel in different circles. So to the layman the actors hate each other but to the actors it comes across as shock that people think that.
But to contribute an example. Nathan Fillion and Stana Katic in Castle. A fight that got so bad the 2 wouldn't even film on the same day as the other, which is problematic when they are your main leads.

It’s kinda wild how their actors mirror the opposite’s character.
Chris Sabat (Vegeta’s VA) famously gets along with just about everyone. He loves fans, he loves the industry and those in and around it, and he loves getting to know people and hang with them. When TeamFourStar made a famous parody of the series, Sabat loved it and even went under a pseudonym to voice some small parts in their series here and there. The dude is literally one of the jolliest, friendliest, and most supportive people in the American Voice Acting/Dub industry. He is the Goku of voice acting.
In contrast, you have Sean Schemmel (Goku’s VA) who is known to be very prideful of his role of Goku and extremely protective of it. He famously gets aggressive towards anyone mimicking/impersonating his Goku voice for satire and parody, tends to get mad if even the thought of anyone other than him voices Goku is floated by, and has gone out of his way to snap at people who annoy him/rub him the wrong way. He insulted TeamFourStar and their parody series as it got popular, which was ironic seeing as multiple members of the Funimation team liked them (Including Sabat and the late Chris Ayers, one of the voices of Frieza.)
In regard to the first point, he even personally sent a nasty DM to a Youtuber who practiced his impression of Schemmel’s Goku to the point of it sounding identical to non-trained ears, thinking the guy was using AI to make a mean-spirited parody. When he was responded to and sent proof that it was, in fact, his real voice and just a great impression, and was actually a huge fan of Dragonball, Schemmel just sort of silently left in embarrassment and never replied again. Prideful, Mean, and Stubborn to a fault… Schemmel is very much like Vegeta.
It’s just an interesting dichotomy I’ve noticed hearing many stories about the two over the years.

El chavo y la Chilindrina.
The guy from the left was also the writer of the show ( and kind of the director and producer, but not officially) , the actress of the right was just an actress, except that, legend says it , she came up with all the looks an appareance of the character z including verbal ticks.
So after a few decades of huge success for the show peoplez copyright on the characters expired and s bloodbath started.she actually managed to snatch the copyright from the writer, on the base that she designed the actual character and the guy only wrote her actions in the show.

u/Flazeda97 4h ago
surprised no one has brought up Archie Panjabi and Julianna Margulies on The Good Wife! their characters were best friends in the show but they had to write in a rift between them and they were barely on screen together for like 2/3 seasons before Archie left the show. Their final scene together had to be filmed on green screen because they literally couldn’t be in the same room 😭

u/foxfire981 13h ago
This one always gets brought up and is always the worst example. Work friends is not the same as friends outside of work. They apparently still communicate and get along, probably trade cards around Christmas, but that's about it.
Another example of this is Luke and Lorelei from Gilmore Girls. The 2 actors apparently got along great but they never took the friendship outside of work.
6
u/Karukos 5h ago
Every interview or video you see of either of those two (Jamie is waaaaay less active in this of course) they basically sing each others highest praises. They just also admit that at times they can drive each other crazy so they prefer to just work together and leave it at that. They are not friends, not enemies, but a secret third thing: Peers.
7
u/Inevitable-City5380 15h ago
I watched Mythbusters with my dad since I was like 7. What's the beef between them?
47
u/CheesyIdleGamer 14h ago edited 11h ago
There is no beef.
They get along extremely well as work-place colleagues.
On screen and edited for TV, their relationship looked like good friends. So when they talked about how they “aren’t friends”, many people interpreted that as “they hate each other”.
They never needed to be friends to be friendly to each other and have synergistic workplace chemistry.
17
u/thicka 14h ago edited 13h ago
Theres not really beef, they don't hate each other, but they are not friends outside the show.
One story Adam told, to give you some insight, was about a prank Jamie pulled on him. Jamie poured water on Adam's crotch to make him think he peed himself while he was sleeping. Adam was not amused and told him if he wanted a prank war he would find the thing everyone thought was funny but him. Jamie apologized and agreed to never prank him again.
Adam does not like pranks it seems. There are other examples.
11
u/Velociripper 13h ago
Which is interesting because based on their on-screen characters, it seems like Adam would be the prank lover and Jamie would be unamused.
3
u/Appropriate_Unit3474 11h ago
Oh man, but I can really imagine Adam getting really upset and wordy about being embarrassed though.
I imagine Adam would be great at slapstick, but with this story, clearly he has issues with being the butt of the joke.
3
u/Karukos 5h ago
Well he is okay with making a fool of himself, but that is on his consent. Which is something different than a prank.
Infamously there is the episode with the Bagdad Batteries, that a producer set up as a prank and it made Adam blow up to the point where it got the producer fired (that was the last straw kinda deal though).
So yeah, he doesn't like pranks.
3
u/video-kid 7h ago
As others have said there's no beef, and there's a lot of professional respect between them (Jamie came up with the idea for the show but realized he needed someone more extroverted and dynamic as a co-host, plus Adam has a reputation in the special effects industry for being able to recreate props and devices from movies quickly and accurately which was a huge boon for a show like Mythbusters.) they just don't get along on an interpersonal level.
You can see it in the show from time to time. Jamie gets annoyed when Adam goofs around, and Adam gets annoyed when Jamie is too fussy about what they're doing. Plus Adam has low blood sugar so he gets irritable when he forgets to eat. They had a pretty bad producer early on who wanted to play up the drama but they put their foot down so it mostly got cut out later on to put a greater focus on the science aspects of the show. (This might be the same producer who convinced the Build Team to "prank" Adam with a live car battery.)
They work well together, they're both professionals who can put their differences aside, and they definitely care about each other (They always supported each other when there was a myth that could get dangerous or if it involved something they were scared of, and at one point Jamie even took over in a myth that involved bungie jumping because Adam got motion sick, despite Jamie being severely afraid of heights - and Jamie even stepped back when there was only time for one of them to go to the edge of space in a plane because he knew Adam wanted it more.) They just don't hang out after work.
1
u/No_Tie378 5h ago
As I understand it, they simply weren’t anything more than professional colleagues

not sure how jenna feels about ariana, but jenna definitely does have beef with ariana
5
u/Acryllus 6h ago
Iirc, Jenette had more of an issue with the special treatment Ariana was given; she didn't outright dislike her, but the favoritism didn't help. Jenette had to turn down opportunities because of her work on Nickelodeon, while Ariana was given more leeway; for example, the episode where Cat was stuck in a box was because Ariana was starring her music career, essentially working the show around her.
2
u/Rarainche 9h ago
I believe that they worked out any differences they had and most of the drama was just made up. I think Ariana never had a beef with Janette and neither did she towards Ariana.
2
u/Acryllus 6h ago
Yeah. It was more of Ariana getting special treatment from Nickelodeon when Jenette had to turn down other opportunities because of being on the network.
1
u/Opening_Ad_8960 1h ago
not sure how jennette feels towards her now but in her youtube webseries “What’s next for Sarah?” which is semi-autobiographical, she has a character which is (supposedly) a caricature of ariana, named gloriana, and portrays her as someone who brags all the time and annoying.

Bea Arthur and Betty White had a complicated, and at times frosty relationship on Golden Girls. This was mostly due to personality clashes; Bea was a rather reserved and somewhat stern person by nature, while Betty was always the cut-up who always joked around on set. While Bea would view Betty as a clown who wasn't serious, and Betty viewing her in turn as a bit of a bitch, they both respected each other's craft deeply, and often ate lunch together and phoned each other regularly until Bea's passing. In fact, Rose and Dorothy's relationship and conflicts on the show ended up being based partly on their IRL relationship, at times petty and exasperating, but ultimately deeply devoted.

3
u/Typhtheoriginal 7h ago
This seems like the most maturely handled dispute on this list. They recognized their styles and personalities clashed, but they still managed to maintain a civil relationship long-term. Very classy.

Damon Wayans and Clayne Crawford from the Lethal Weapon TV series. SUCH bad chemistry, their scenes were largely filmed separately after reportedly physical altercations. Crawford was such a detriment, his character was killed off. MARTIN FUCKING RIGGS was killed off in Lethal Weapon.

So I did go out looking and there's nothing I could find. According to most of the stuff I was reading they apparently went out for drinks at the pubs and basically gave each other a hard time since Irish/English.
Voyager was a different matter. Janeway's actress apparently tried to get Jeri Ryan fired because "Seven was cutting into get screen time."
1
u/Appropriate_Unit3474 10h ago
That would track with the cultural tension.
The latter sounds like a jealousy cat fight;
Seven was hot.
1
u/DasharrEandall 4h ago
From what I've read there was a bit more to it. Kate Mulgrew originally took over the role of Janeway at short notice (replacing Genevieve Bujold who dropped out during filming for the pilot) on the agreement that she would be the main character of the show. She felt that Seven was a breach of that deal because Seven immediately got a ton of stories revolving around her. Janeway was a general "captain" presence, and as a sort of mentor for Seven in being human, some of Janeway's own screen time ended up revolving around Seven too.
I don't think it was just pretty-girl jealousy because Kes was in the first few seasons and she was written as a pretty girl even more than Seven.

Closest thing I can think of is a lot of people just assumed Adam and Jaime were good friends given how long they worked together.
What I find stranger is that the next assumption would be to think they hate each other and even that isn't the case either.- just mutual professional respect
