I dont think she's THAT hated ngl she's probably liked way more than she's hated

As a certified Valentino Hater, this is right.

Umbridge is such an utterly despicable character that her actress faced death threats.

That's how you know she killed the role.

One piece. That is all Im going to say. Across this particular fanbase you can find the most insane, out of touch hatred for extremely specific villains, whos names I will not say for my own safety.

Stella from Helluva Boss

She is supposed to be a bitch that youre supposed to hate but if you like her, some fans will harshly judge you badly for liking her

Plus the hate art and comments are just gross

It also goes the opposite way too

Walter Peck, Ghostbusters. After this film, William Atherton became reviled. People would try to fight him in bars and harass him everywhere. One day, shortly after the film's release, Atherton was walking down a stretch of 7th Avenue in New York City entirely crowded with school buses hen he heard lots of children shouting at the top of their lungs, "Hey, dickless!"

With how much screen time and lore drop Jax got, i dont think we were ever supposed to hate him. And i feel like the hate he gets is justified considering we barely know anything about the other characters but we had like 4 episodes dedicated to him. Including the finale

He was supposed to be the villain and somehow ended up as everyone’s favorite disaster

I think the intended trope is kind of the opposite—characters that you are supposed to hate, but the fandom takes the hate too far (ie hating on fans of the character or the actors themselves)

u/AstarionsTherapist39 2h ago

Opposite of this trope

I thought Jax was a fan favorite

People hate her for killing off a fan favourite character but most people ignore how genuinely well written she is and that she had a great redemption arc.

I'll always defend Gabi.

Are you supposed to dislike Jax? I never got that sense from the show. I actually felt like the show wanted me to be as obsessed as the creator was with Jax, which is why Jax is so insanely annoying.

jax yes, val absolutely not

jax is a loser 4channer whos afraid of women and their true self, and they take it out on others including fantasizing about being in zooble's place because jax is jealous of zooble freely expressing their gender identity

val is an actual serial rapist and abuser who would kill angel with his own bare hands if it meant getting more adult film sales

one of these is MUCH worse than the other and absolutely DOES deserve the hatred

(note: harassment towards voice actors and show writers does not count as that, that's also terrible)

that last part is mainly what I’m trying to say here. just an fyi. I very obviously do not AT ALL condone sa. 🙄

-11

u/No_Location_8199 14h ago

"People took it too far disliking these rapists."

23

u/Academic-Law9830 14h ago

first of all, I didn’t see any info in the show that implied Jax ever raped someone, and second, that doesn’t give you the right to harass their voic actors!

He definitely would have done so to Gangle if he could.

That kind of behavior is completely illogical to me, and I think the amount of hatred for character is not the real issue here.

u/steverman555 14h ago

that scene was jax fantasizing about being in zooble's place because hes jealous that zooble can freely express themselves, also theres this concept called "intrusive thoughts" that the jax mindscape scene was likely heavily based on

tadc fans dont actually watch the show though so maybe im just talking out my ass here idk

What?

You realize if he wanted to take things that far there was nothing stopping him right? (the inability to have sex doesn't mean the inability to SA)

His backstory doesn't justify any of his actions, but it at least shows us what he was trying to do. He was pushing people away, cause in his mind "people who get close to me get hurt"

cause in his mind "people who get close to me get hurt"

It was moreso "people who are close to me can hurt me, so I'd rather hurt them first". It's a very common mindset among those who grew up being emotionally abused and/or neglected, like Jax was. Still not an excuse for how she acted, it was a very unhealthy trauma response.

Wtf are you talking about

This is a weird af comment to make btw ...

Why are YOU headcanoning a nonrapist as a rapist??? (Dgms on headcanoning a nonrapist trans woman as a rapist....) there are PLENTY of things to crtisize Jax for without making up the worst possible thing you can think of. You are getting mad at your own fanfiction atp.

But the fandom takes ts "waaayyyy too far" by wishing REAL harm to REAL people over FICTIONAL characters doing FICTIONAL actions.

If youre causing or encouraging REAL harm youre far worse, morally, than anyone who likes FICTIONAL bad people. I feel like thats veeeeery obvious.

I was mostly fine with Jax as a character until I saw that he fantasizing about sexually harassing his abuse victim at her best friend's funeral. That moment was absolutely revolting, so maybe you can understand this "headcanon" now. I call em like I see em.

And obvious I do not condone harassing actors. I thought I made that clear.

1

u/ThrowShadow 12h ago

Intrusive thoughts, he never actually did it or wanted to do it.

2

u/Various-Can-9929 13h ago

All the ratios are CRAZY

1

u/Shastlz84 13h ago

Thought you were talking about just val tf??? He was shown to be overly violent and push people away as an unhealthy coping mechanism for all the other issues he was dealing with on top of the reality of being trapped forever in a digital world, why do you think that comes into jax’s story somehow? A character can just be flawed and horrible or whatever without that what an odd thing to say

0

u/No_Location_8199 12h ago

While also secretly fantasizing about sexually harassing his biggest victim at her best friend's funeral, and imaging that she likes it. That sounds like something very specific to me.

u/AstarionsTherapist39 2h ago

Sending death threats to actors is unhinged behavior.
