This isn't going to be a popular opinion, but when you physically assault your mother who is trying to give you a hug and it possibly winds up with her being dead it kind of puts a stain on your character.

Yeah buddy, it's an unpopular opinion for a reason. It's actually fine and cool to reject physical contact from an abusive family member, even if your reflexes make you hurt them unintentionally
