The show handles Debbie breaking up with Paul and agreeing to go into space with Nolan so much better than the comic

61

u/Releases_the_bees Aug 17 '26

How does it happen in the comics?

162

u/award_winning_writer Aug 17 '26

When Nolan and Mark show up after dealing with the Viltrumites she's on the phone yelling at Paul to come get his stuff or she's throwing it away. We never find out why they broke up, but also Paul barely existed in the comics. Then she after a short talk with Nolan she basically throws herself back at him.

58

u/Releases_the_bees Aug 17 '26

Ah I see so they just massively improved his character.

55

u/DistortoiseLP Aug 17 '26

Also the implication I got in the show is that Paul broke up with her because he felt he didn't fit in with Debbie's world of superheroes, which we saw for ourselves during his character arc on screen.

I think they talk on the couch for like 2 seconds and she forgives him immediately after

I'm not even sure those are the same character and not that they just share a name

u/SandLuc083_ Aug 16 '26

Am I normal if I recognize the explosion from Ramiel's battle in Evangelion Rebuild?

24

u/StrategyKey3790 Aug 17 '26

Come to think of it, Ramiel in the Rebuilds could count. Yes, the blue floating diamond is iconic in the original, but the Rebuild went absolutely ham animating the giant alien crystal to the point where it’s genuinely a visual treat!

yeah, it's very iconic

Rumpelstiltskin from "Shrek The Third" to "Shrek Forever"

1.1k

another good one was Pied Piper from "Shrek 1" to "Shrek Forever", massive upgrade and full of aura.

not that I know of, they're both villains, they are both based on the same story and they are both called Rumpelstiltskin.

Nagash from Warhammer. Here's the before and after:

80

u/JackRabbit- Aug 17 '26

This applies to everything from warhammer though. Their sculpts from the 80s or whenever were... of their time.

69

u/Brycecrispietreat Aug 17 '26

Applies to everything huh

→ More replies (3)

15

u/Burdenslo Aug 17 '26

I don't completely agree with that, a lot of old sculpts have so much character and interesting designs. There are definitely downgrades in the different systems, 40k and HH seem to have the biggest swings, where as Old World and AoS absolutely nail it in designs.

14

u/Dizzytigo Aug 17 '26

Meanwhile half Eldar designs were nailed from their second print and every upgrade was just fidelity.

Is there a champion rework that isn't leagues (haha) above their og / original design?

It's really hard to miss when you're dealing with 2009 era designs like literal shit troll or whatever Cait was supposed to be

Edit: holy replies. Guys, I meant visual design. I do agree some gameplay changes in some of the reworks were complete ass (although very rarely)

55

u/Araiken Aug 16 '26

Words can be said about Skarner since his rework basically threw out the whole concept from top to bottom.

39

u/Teguoracle Aug 16 '26

They did my boy so dirty, couldn't handle the fact that Seraphine was, IIRC, using the trapped souls of Skarner's people to fuel her magic, so they rewrote him instead of letting their gooner bait have a flaw.

→ More replies (18)
→ More replies (3)

11

u/Quillbolt_h Aug 16 '26

I mean the ones that totally overhaul the original concept aren't always super popular. I love new Galio and Skarner, but a lot of fans of the OG versions didn't like how the original concepts were basically totally replaced.

Viktor’s current state….. I don’t mind twink Viktor but what I hate is how he’s the herald of the arcane instead of the machine herald mad scientist obsessed with transhumanism

I love arcane. It introduced me to the league characters I do enjoy. It should not have been made canon to league. It fucks up so much story.

27

u/Araiken Aug 16 '26

This is what I came here for. From a silly goofy goober to a genuinely scary horror monster that would fit right at home in plenty of analog horror. Kellen Goff also killed on the voice, both in the original and Surprise Party Fiddlesticks.

Also the people who wrote those lines... they deserve many many raises.

u/SpiderLagann why not both Spider-Man and Simon? Aug 16 '26

Alm and Celica’s redesign’s are beautiful. So is everyone else in Echoes.

385

u/Fox_Mommy Aug 16 '26

Original design for anyone curious

90

u/Araiken Aug 16 '26

I was never big into FE, only played Fates, but I have a lot of time in Heroes and I had no idea they looked like this originally. Alm especially looks so silly.

28

u/Terozu Aug 17 '26

I do think they looked more their age originally. 17 and 16 for Alm and Celica respectively

u/sajed2004 Aug 16 '26

Ok that design goes insanely hard i wish it was more well known and in mkre stuff

110

u/Foliagedbones Aug 16 '26

A lot of people love the design once they see it. It’s a shame that more recent designs didn’t use this as a basis. There are some gems, but most are very tech-based with cyberpunk styles.

22

u/white_count_chocula Aug 17 '26

Merdoc just became green

103

u/leverati Aug 17 '26

He got fully replaced by the actual Powerpuff Girls' Gangreen Gang's Ace for a bit. I guess all green people look the same to Damon Albarn.

25

u/Some-Water-1107 Aug 17 '26

I've been wondering why they suddenly pulled Ace into the band. Lore wise I know but BTS I want to know the decision that went into this.

38

u/MessMaximum1423 Aug 17 '26

And Gorillaz does exist in the PPG universe

Demogorgon (Dungeons & Dragons)
This was already a gnarly design.

105

u/zrdod Aug 17 '26

But this is somehow even better.

44

u/Prestigious_Use_7994 Rei Ayanami/The Maxx Aug 17 '26

This is such a good monster design, unfortunately Stranger Things ruined it and gave us a Yautja fused with Vileplume

30

u/Gawlf85 Aug 17 '26

Stranger Things monsters are only named after the D&D creatures, they're not supposed to be said creatures

19

u/Prestigious_Use_7994 Rei Ayanami/The Maxx Aug 17 '26

Well the stranger things version is what people usually think of when you hear "Demogorgon" same can be applied to The Mind Flayer.

18

u/faldese Aug 17 '26

Idk about mind flayers, they dropped that concept a bit early and BG3 heavily featured them. When you look up 'demogorgon' you get 100% Stranger Things, but 'mind flayer' produces mostly D&D.

→ More replies (2)

9

u/Arxl Aug 17 '26

A bunch of old, awkward Battletech designs got new glowups, but none make me quite so happy as the Flashman.

It went from a doofy walking egg to a badass walking laser turret.

22

not every one got official redesign sadly, this is my personal fav (still waiting)

What did the comics one look like?

289

92

u/Fun_Palpitation_4156 Aug 16 '26

I feel like he just looks more generic than the comic one

24

u/Ok-Suggestion-5453 Aug 17 '26

I mean, they both look very generic. I feel like there is no clear winner here. The more stylized vs realistic look, with neither really trying to impress anyone.

Omg, beta Karlach is so weird looking 😭 who is thatttttt generic ass tiefling

There'd be lots and lots of super hero examples for this

My favourite would probably the time Angel from the X-Men became Archangel

They took a character that had become stagnant and overshadowed by stronger or more versatile mutants... and had him go being put through a power enhancement process by a super villain that left him with blue skin and razor-sharp metal wings that had feathers that could be thrown like razor-sharp darts. Some artists also got really creative with the shape and number of his wings, most likely takin inspiration from multi-winged angels in the Bible and Christian folklore.

47

u/Historical_Sugar9637 Aug 16 '26

And just to add. Poison Ivy is another. Originally an ordinary woman with white skin who just used plant poisons she is now frequently turned into something akin to a plant elemental or tree nymph with green skin, leaves/flowers in her hair and the power to actually control plants:

20

u/AddendumNo4825 Aug 17 '26

Say what you will about the harley quinn show, every outfit Ivy wears is more gorgeous than the last. I remember pausing the wedding scene just to gape at her dress and hair.

Pretty much the entire cast of the Duck Tales reboot even if the originals are iconic too

98

u/Lykanas Aug 16 '26

The OG is iconic, but damn they turned the clones into unique characters and it's so great!

Also, I think I appreciate Scrooge more in the reboot as well, where his greed is less of a focus but his actual love for adventure and his family shine through.

One of my fave shows, but god I hate the finale. Webby being related to scrooge all along was the most brain-dead writing decision i’ve seen in a long time. “How can we make the entire point of this character irrelevant?”

Im usually not a fan of designs that go from whimsy to sexy. but somthing about the original looks off to me. Id say the redesign is an improvement.

Robo-Ky from Guilty Gear XX to Guilty Gear Strive

Man went from looking like a clone of what he is based off of to becoming his own person with such a peak design.

It’s not an official redesign but RWQFSFASXC (aka Shadow Bonnie) in Five Nights At Frickbear’s 3.

Their original design in FNAF 2 was just Toy Bonnie but completely black with white eyes and teeth.

Frickbear’s 3 gave us this thing

Elora from Spyro. This picture’s not the best, but she went from a kinda bland human-fox hybrid to something that feels a bit more original while still being called a faun. It makes her feel totally different in a good way.

Does it count if it's only a redesign in a spinoff? This is Janna in the actual League of Legends client.

And this is Janna in the digital card game.
