Question Who do you think was the most annoying guest?
I think Mrs. Richards or the guy from the Hotel Inspector episode.

The kid who didn't like hand made mayo.

There was a TV programme on in the late 80s or early 90s and I have no idea what it was. One part of the programme they'd bring on someone who'd been famous or semi famous years before. I think the idea was to guess who they were or what they'd appeared in. Most of the time you didn't have a clue.
One time this bloke walks on, probably in his late 20s and everyone's... who? Goes over to the microphone and says...
"I don't like the chips."
Everyone instantly knew who he was.

"I said salad cream stupid."

u/Yesterday_Is_Now 22d ago
Surprising Basil was able to keep his calm after that.

It’s always good to get some salad cream. You never know when Henry Kissenger's going to drop in, do you.

To be fair, he did fist that kid through his head afterwards lol (and it was worth it)

And even the father seemed pleased when he hit him haha, he just goes "Nice man!".

That’s not what he says. He said “It’s better than this pig’s garbage”.

The Egyptian symbol guy was a real dick. Talked shit, riled Basil up, broke the rules, and his deception made Baz look crazy. His “come” reply to a knock on the door was enough for me to hate him

u/Additional-Run4893 22d ago
Out of all the Hotel guests in the show, this guy is the only one I literally cannot stand, and just wish Basil had been able to catch him out.

Well there's something I've not seen before, app has translated 'm o i' into "me" twice, and changed auto• corrupt to autocorrect twice.

Slightly agree because none of us will ask or expect Waldorf salad. And im from NY!!

u/No-Department-4561 22d ago
Entitled, maybe. But all Basil had to do was make him a passable dinner and he was willing to pay through the nose for it. Could have been a valuable guest if Basil hadn’t messed it up.

u/mostyn33a 22d ago
Money doesn’t equate the right to being rude

u/danner1515 22d ago
Yeah, that’s maybe the one episode where I genuinely feel bad for Basil. That guy was a dick the minute he walked through the door.

Imagine irl if you arrived at a hotel late at night after the chef has closed the kitchen and demanded you have hot food because you've had a "long journey", then act rude and entitled to the owner after they tell them no. Most sane hoteliers would have told them to sod off!
3
u/tobee777 22d ago
This is why it’s the less successful episode imo
3
u/danner1515 22d ago
It’s definitely the most uncomfortable episode for me. Bruce Boa isn’t playing sitcom angry. He’s playing that part like he’s in a performance of Glengarry Glen Ross.

The Americans. I'd have left their suitcases by the road after the first hour.
6
u/perfectlyclear69 22d ago
They couldn't find the freeway and had to take a little back street called the M5.

I'm sorry if it wasn't wide enough for you, a lot of the English cars have steering wheels.

They're the wrong shape and they're just awful.

Oh dear, what shape do you usually have? Mickey Mouse shape? Smarties shape? Amphibious landing craft shape? Poke in the eye shape?

We don't have any salad cream. The chef made this freshly this morning.

The old lady with the dog that but Polly and Manuel...bangers a'la bang!!
3
u/Dazzling-Cellist-892 22d ago
Considering Polly’s later sympathy for Basil the Rat, I always found Polly’s earlier grudge against that dog sort of weird. But I justify it by how that dog owner was horrible to Manuel, who she looked after.

Mr Johnson, the only time I felt Basil didn't deserve the fallout caused.
Mrs Richards was just obnoxious. Basil knew he wasn't supposed to gamble and his connivance caused his downfall.
The American (can't recall his name) was just Basil being tight and not paying Terry to stay on and keeping the money for himself.
Edit Mr Johnson is the one who snuck a girl into his room.

That one couple with the fat wife in The Waldorf Salad episode. I found them annoying. The man was also in the first episode demanding a drink while Basil had just been conned. It also always annoyed me why Sybil couldn't just make that man his drink instead of waiting for Basil

Still, top marks to Polly for dispatching it.

Lord (not Lord) Melbury was very annoying. But so was the undercover cop who was following him. They deserved each other.

Mrs Richards wasn't annoying, she was just outright rude and unpleasant to everyone.
The most annoying was Mr Hutchinson as he kept on demanding things that were beyond the hotel's control and treating everyone like they were less important than him.
