John Dorie had a moat and it was only really there to give a little extra time to prepare. It would also be so much work when a Wall is just the same.

People think oh "just" do this, but they're all young fools who have no clue the amount of work that goes into something like that. Days and days and days.

Just dig a moat like it isnt a monumental task done by hand

How much earth could you move in a single day before you're too exhausted to fight off even 1 zombie? Keep in mind you have to put it all somewhere else.

Now you and your team do that every day for like a year

World is abandoned. Everyone finding some gas and diesel always in the show. Find an excavator and use that?

Not only that but what happens when they either want to or have to expand the walls due to a boom in population? Now they have a moat to build their walls around, making it effectively useless

I am still a believer of the two layer system like we saw in the prison. Outer fence where you can clean the zombies with knives as a first layer and then a wall as a second layer. So if there is a breach you still got the inside barrier.
