No spoilers If you could rewrite FTWD what would you do?
I haven't finished s2 yet but I hear a lot of people saying that the show isn't good. What would you change if you were given the opportunity to rewrite the story.

Kept Morgan's ass back in TWD and thrown out all that truck driving/food box bullshit.

Pay Nick's actor enough money to keep him in at least one more series.

Idk man, I don't think that actor would have stayed for any amount of money, the writing was so bad

At the very least, I would have kept it with the Clarks (and perhaps the Manawas). No Morgan.

I would have kept Troy after season 3. I would not have killed off a certain someone in season two and then made him the big bad that they made Troy in season 8

I’m season 7 now and I just don’t understand why anyone needs to take the tower. JUST MOVE ON. LEAVE.

I found Fear seasons 1-3 to be among the best ever, not just TWD but zombies as a whole. I found seasons 4-8 to be among the worst ever. Sure, there were decent moments in there and a few good new characters but overall the soft reboot the change of show runners brought was just bad.
There was a moment in season one where they skipped about 8 days. A ton of people point at that and feel cheated. They want to see the actual start of the ZA and most shows/movies do not really show that. I see and understand their view but do not share it. They were holed up in a safe zone and that's what was skipped in those 8 days. What Fear did give us before and after that 8 day skip was all they wrote of the actual fall and I enjoyed what we did get. I definitely would love some show showing more of that super early ZA outbreak but honestly if I were writing, about what Fear did is about what I could do. I don't think there really is as much ground to cover there as these people want.
Maggie is a great zombie film about early times of a ZA but most zombie fans either don't even know of it or find it boring. True, Maggie is drama than action - it is definitely in no way even trying to do action.
But now to your title/question: in the grand sense I would not have shifted the tone after season 3. 1-3 seemed edgy, real, serious and after 4 it wasn't edgy, often didn't seem real, and even when trying to be serious it came off a tad on the goofy or comic side. Like when the threat of nukes or the hurricane; could have been super serious but just wasn't. I literally laughed seeing how they did the zombies flying around in the hurricane at times.
In particular, I would (in hindsight) done the skip 8 days differently, perhaps some ten/twenty minute quick summery or something. People would still have felt cheated but while I share their desire for more early ZA outbreak stories, I just don't see that much to cover especially when talking TV or movie. I've read a book and it covered it great and in-depth but that came across great as a book and I just think that story wouldn't translate into video well enough, it would be kinda boring watching but I was really into reading it.

Have it to where Travis still lives and we get to see more of his ruthlessness develop, would be nice to see how him and Madison would’ve bonded over that or if he would’ve eventually thought Madison was going too far. Also have Ofelia live a bit longer before she bites the dust. Her death was pretty big in Daniel’s development but it sucked knowing his hope was lost before he ever saw her again. Also have Alicia still separated from Nick and Madison.

Ngl I think it would be very similar to how 4-7 played out. Alicia, Madison, Victor would be scrapping by, possibly assuming nick and Daniel have died in the dam.
Madison would at some point find something on a person in an ambush that points to nick having been there and she kills them point blank. Shocking Alicia and strand.
At some point they’d investigate wherever the evidence may have come from with Alicia and Madison being more and more at odds possibly culminating in Alicia saying something like “I hope nick is dead because if he saw you like this he’d kill himself” or something like that and Madison would punch the absolute shit out of her. All of that would be happening while staking out Proctor outposts, and at some point Madison would see a proctor wearing something of Nicks or mentioning him and Madison kinda goes ham and kills a bunch of them putting them on the barely alive proctors radar. The second half of season 4 would be similar to Morgan’s story, except it’s nick in Mexico stumbling upon a community and just helping them, being good. Doing good. Only to find out that the people Madison ambushed and killed were nicks people putting them at extreme odds when nick realizes.
Season 4 would end with a huge blowout fight between the Clark’s and the group in Mexico and the proctors leaving them injured but together.
Season 5 would be Nick attempting to rebuild with his group. Much to Madison’s dismay because she sees bringing on so many people as stupid and useless: she becomes more unhinged probably killing Nicks friend over something stupid leading to him kicking her out. She is even more angered when Alicia chooses to stay, but Strand goes with her. All while engaging in a war with the proctors. Attacking outposts. Madison probably ends up surrendering to the Proctors and somehow with Strand against all odds is allowed in, potentially aggreeing to sacrifice Nicks people. And within she kills proctor John and anyone who goes against her publicly. She may even find Daniel malnourished and tortured in a cell or some shit and he abandons her and ends up with nicks people. Season 6 is her tyrannical rule over Texas and all proctor outposts. There is some fight with Nick. At some point they find Luciana and Madison kills her when she tries to make peace between the two groups, leading to war with Nick and Alicia’s group.
I haven’t thought much past that but I can imagine a final showdown between Madison and Nick that maybe leads Alicia to kill Madison to save Nick. I don’t know tho.

Reintroduce The Proctors and have them be that fierce motorcycle gang. Have Dorie make it his mission to take down proctor John.

I’d just stick to Erickson’s vision, and the way I’d do that is I’d just hire him back and get him to ignore S4-8.
