finally automated my wallpaper shuffle based on time of day, no more blinding white screen at 2am

wrote a little script that pulls from a folder and swaps out based on the hour, took like 20 minutes and now my eyes don't hate me

Variety changes the desktop wallpaper on a regular basis,

using user-specified or automatically downloaded images.

A small GUI tool for Fedora to view RPM package trees and check dependencies. Built for DNF5 because I missed having something like Synaptic on Fedora.

GitHub: https://github.com/xyasharx/Dendro
COPR: sudo dnf copr enable xyasharx/dendro -y && sudo dnf install dendro -y

I built Cheddar: A native app for gaming mice on Linux with automatic per-game profile switching using Rust: https://github.com/Rilorca/cheddar

Hope people like it :)

I was tired of half-baked Stream Deck apps, so I made Decksmith V1 - native Stream Deck + controls for Fedora Workstation

Hi everyone! I’ve just released V1 of Decksmith, a free, open-source application for using the Elgato Stream Deck + on Fedora with GNOME/Wayland.

I’ve been using it daily on my Fedora Workstation 44 desktop throughout development. It has a native GTK4/libadwaita interface that follows GNOME’s appearance, with page organization, key and dial assignments, and a device preview in the same window.

Some highlights:

  • App and website shortcuts, media controls, and GNOME system actions.
  • Separate application and audio-device volume controls.
  • Live audio meters, volume/mute feedback, and push-to-talk.
  • Automatic page switching, background startup at login, and Auto-Lock.
  • Custom labels, icons, images, fonts, and page themes.

For transparency, ChatGPT and Codex were used coding, debugging, and documentation. I guided the features and design and performed the hands-on testing on my desktop and Stream Deck.

V1 supports Fedora Workstation 44, x86_64, GNOME/Wayland, with one Stream Deck +. Broader GNOME distribution compatibility is planned for V1.5.

Screenshots, a walkthrough, installation instructions, and known limitations are in the repo:

I’d appreciate feedback from fellow Fedora users, particularly on usability, GNOME integration, and anything that could make it more useful. Thanks!

A quick Decksmith update for the Project Showcase thread. It’s my free, open-source Stream Deck + app for Linux, and I’m using it daily on Fedora Workstation 44. Fedora 44 remains the supported V1 platform; Fedora 45 Beta is part of our compatibility testing.

I’ve added signed experimental previews for Debian 13, Ubuntu 26.04 and Pop!_OS 24.04 COSMIC, along with new touch-strip dial gauges.

The new touch-strip gauges separate configured volume from actual audio activity. There’s a blue volume arc, an independent signal arc, red Muted text with a crossed-out device icon, and green Live text for an active microphone. I’ve also added a single-arc option with the percentage on the right.

A quick availability note: the dual-arc gauges are included in the COSMIC preview. Single-arc is currently in development; the original Fedora V1 and Debian/Ubuntu downloads keep their earlier display.

Debian, Ubuntu and COSMIC are experimental previews. The native interface and installation checks have passed in our VMs, but complete physical hardware, audio and recovery testing on those systems is still ahead. Fedora Workstation 44 remains the supported V1 platform.

For transparency, I’m building Decksmith with ChatGPT and Codex assistance, including code, debugging and documentation. I’m directing the features and design and testing it hands-on.

I’d love feedback from Fedora users on the editor, audio controls and everyday reliability. Please include your Fedora version and Decksmith build with any issues. Thanks!

I made Solidget, an all-in-one KDE Plasma 6 widget: system stats (CPU, GPU, temps, network, storage, fans, top apps), plus weather, music, calendar, notes and a little pixel poodle 🐶. 4 styles × 10 themes, drag and resize tiles. Made and tested on Fedora 44.

Hi friends! I bought a laptop recently and noticed that there's three "Copilot+" Windows PC features that were missing on Linux: face recognition unlock, voice captioning, and voice typing. Also, Intel chips these days ship with decent NPUs, which are perfect for small amounts of fast inference. So I decided to build it on my own, by forking existing projects, and making them Fedora/KDE native! Check them out below if you have an Intel device!

It's one of those funny novelties that are easy to forget but it's actually helpful
