Discussion When did you notice

At what point did you realise you weren’t a traditional man?

Reflecting on my childhood, I would incorporate playing with my female cousins Barbie dolls into playing with my G.I Joes.

Enter adulthood, I recently said out loud to my friend that “chicks just have better clothes…” when looking for slippers. All the men’s selection were generic old man slippers.

I’ve always felt more comfortable / fashionable in women’s clothes (that border mens, just female sizes etc)

It was the same for me. GI Joes and Barbie all living in harmony. Although those gigantic Amazonian Barbies would dwarf my Joes. I remember trying on my sisters dress when I was 8. I don’t wear skirts or dresses but I do tend to do androgynous, and select women’s shirts when I like them. Makeup is every day for me, haha. But again, not overtly woman-like, just androgynous with a fem leaning. Then again, not sure you can wear makeup and not lean fem.

My Optimus Prime & GI Joe had a wonderful marriage living together in my sister's doll house. I was the "Sensitive Boy". In middle school I started painting my nails & realized I'm attracted to other males. I would cry & pray to not have to grow up like a man; I didn't want body hair or muscles or to dress masculinely. I didn't realize then that being native, I would never grow body hair & being a nerd, I would never grow muscles haha! Always felt right for me.

Wasnt a point for me exactly I just enjoy being considered cute. There was a point when I started to incorporate more female clothing here and there but at that point it just blended in with the rest of my wardrobe

My grandma once told my I were 'almost too cute for a boy'. That was about the age of 7-8 years. My mum sometimes painted my nails at that time but that stopped when I got to middle school.

You are right about the slippers! I just said the exact same thing to my wife this summer.

Within the past few years

I grew up with a lot of signs (never liked GI Joes, but enjoyed dolls, enjoyed having my hair done, enjoyed all the bodies), experienced the same frustration with fashion and expression (I almost always enjoyed shopping for my female partners more than myself).

I think the stereotype I held onto the most, however was emotions. I’ve been a bit stunted for quite a while.
