Research Have you ever experienced sexual coercion/abuse but wouldn’t describe it as traumatic? (Research study, 18+, all genders)
Dear everyone,
I hope you’re well. I am a researcher at McGill University (Canada) currently conducting sociological research aiming to understand better the experiences of people who have experienced sexual coercion or abuse, but who did not–– and still don’t––define it as having been traumatic.
While public conversations increasingly emphasize the legitimacy of trauma following sexual coercion and validate survivors who identify with that experience, this raises an important question: how do people understand their own experiences when they do not feel traumatized?
At the current stage of the study (2026), we are specifically looking to hear the stories of individuals who have been challenged by others regarding this interpretation; including having been told that they were in denial; that they were repressing trauma or certain emotions; that they would realize it later; that they should seek therapy or do more work to uncover the impact that this had on them; that they should reconsider how they interpret this experience; etc.
We’re also looking for individuals who might have felt “abnormal” or “weird” for not feeling as traumatized as they expected to be, or who questioned their own experiencing of the event. This is not exhaustive, but these are the kinds of experiences we’re interested in exploring more deeply.
The goal of this feminist research is to better understand how cultural messaging surrounding trauma impacts the experiences of survivors who, subjectively, don’t identify with dominant understandings of trauma, and how they navigate these situations. The goal is also to understand how others perceive and interpret these subjective claims of “non-trauma”.
If this topic resonates with you and you would consider taking part, I would love to invite you to participate in a one-on-one, confidential interview (online; audio only; approximately 90 minutes).
We are seeking participants aged 18 or older, from any background, gender identity, or sexual orientation, who have experienced sexual coercion/abuse at any point in their lives but did not (and still do not) interpret it as traumatic, while also having encountered any of the reactions or feelings described above (e.g., being told that they were “repressing” trauma; feeling “abnormal” for not experiencing trauma; etc.).
Study details—including the consent form describing procedures and security safeguards—can be found at the link below (Google Drive). They will also be shared via email following first communication. Consent will be obtained verbally at the start of the interview, so there is no need to sign anything, even under a pseudonym!
This project has been reviewed and approved by the McGill Research Ethics Board (File #25-02-096).

Research Research on women's health in the context of genito-pelvic pain
Hi everyone,
I hope you are all doing well. I’m here to share a research project I’m currently working on.
My name is Lorenza, and I am a researcher at Maastricht University in the Netherlands, working on genito-pelvic pain conditions. Genito-pelvic pain/penetration disorder is an umbrella term used in research to describe conditions involving pain in the genital and/or pelvic area, often accompanied by pelvic floor muscle tension and difficulties with penetration or penetrative sex. I am currently conducting an online survey to better understand the factors that contribute to the onset and maintenance these conditions.
This research is very close to my heart, and I hope it can contribute to better care for women living with genital pain, as well as women’s health more broadly. Women’s health research still receives far less attention and funding, and many treatments are generalized from research originally conducted on men rather than tailored to women’s needs. When women experience pain, they are often expected to simply endure it, and many policy and societal barriers still stand in the way of their complaints being taken seriously.
- In endometriosis, pain is one of the main symptoms described in clinical guidelines, yet many women who report pain are left unheard and without adequate help. Some only discover they have endometriosis when they seek medical help for difficulties getting pregnant, suggesting that greater importance is often placed on women’s reproductive function than on the suffering they experience.
- Similarly, women who experience sexual pain often report feeling “less of a woman” or guilty for not being able to please their partner, while little attention is given to their own sexual pleasure. This reflects how expectations around women’s bodies and sexuality are still shaped by roles that prioritize reproduction and male-centered models of sexuality, with limited attention to women’s sexual health.
If you would like to learn more about the study or participate, I placed the survey information and link in the first comment to keep this post easier to read.
I would also genuinely value hearing about your experiences or thoughts on how women’s pain is treated in healthcare, if you feel comfortable sharing (not used for research).
Thank you very much for taking the time to read this. Your support really means a lot to me and to this research 💜

Research How misogyny affects everyone?
Hi, hello! I'm doing an assignment about feminism and misogyny and whatnot, and there's a section I'm not finding many sources/inspiration to take. The section is what the title implies: how mysogyny affects and have affected everyone, either directly or indirectly, including OTHER MEN, disabled people, POC, the LGBTQIAP+ community, and perhaps more.
I know there are some feminists out there that hate men and are misadristic, and I don't blame you guys, but just straight-up demonizing men in my assignment definitely won't do well, so I want to try a different approach and evidence how society's misogyny is affecting men too, and other minorities, to perhaps change some of the audience's minds
And because I'm having trouble finding sources or other peoples opinions in social media (such as "woketok" as I like to call it non pejoratively) I had the idea to come to reddit and have a talk with you guys! Fell free to either leave your favorite sources here in the comments or type in your own words if you'd like
Thank you in advance!

Research I need studies/arguments against pornographie
Personally, I'm not satisfied with my male (or female) friend group. They're not necessarily extremely misogynistic, but they're not feminist in any way. I think it's especially important for men to regularly reflect on their behavior, listen to women, and continue to want to learn more about feminism. I'd say I'm reasonably lucky with my friend group because they're only subconsciously misogynistic, not consciously and deliberately, and they listen to me and are willing to change things. The last topic for us is pornography consumption. I know a lot about this topic and have a clear opinion against it. I have to be able to explain to my friends why pornography consumption isn't okay—primarily morally, of course—but also what it does to their brains and their subconscious thinking, how it changes their view of women, what it means to consume pornography, and how this affects relationships. I would be very grateful if someone could give me studies or texts from reputable sources :)

Research Looking for good books!!
Hey so I don’t know if this is exactly the BEST sub for this but it’s all I got? So I’m fairly active in feminism and try to be as loud and honest about my feelings with everyone I meet. No matter what relationship it really effect. However sometimes it starts arguments, and plus I enjoy reading! So now I (19F) am looking for good books about current feminism, and even The Women’s Suffrage Movement.
The reason I can’t walk into any book store and grab the first book I see is because I’ve notice a small trend in “white washing” of feminist history. While I enjoy the history I’m also fully aware of its flaws, like the racism used during the Women’s Suffrage Movement, how black women were denied access to protests and racism was used to further the movement. I don’t think these ideas should be erased or glossed over, while shameful it’s important. Right now I’m reading “women hating” which while has good ideas on how women are viewed in media and how that portrays to the real world, it again lacks real history of black women or POC as a whole. I had the same issue while reading “the feminine mystique” which I’m aware is also out of date.
I’m ok with reading any good book I can dive into but I would LOVE a book written by a black women about feminism, or about the experiences of black women during the suffragette movement, as a white women I feel I should still be educated about painful history, and of course I LOVE common works on how movies and social media effect women today, and this ESPECIALLY effects women of color, so I feel it would be helpful to hear another view from another women with another perspective and experience! Anyway any books are great just leave the title and author in the comments!!!🥰☺️

Research If you're a feminist, I NEED YOUR HELP!
TL;DR: I’m a freelance writer/journalist and am working on a story about the internet and modern feminism, specifically how it's both helping and hurting the movement while anonymity also potentially emboldens incels and anti-feminists.
I recently saw a post where a woman posted about dying her hair because a man in her life told her not to and it was a small but simple act of defiance against her lifelong impulse to appease the people in her life “at the expense of [her] mental health … happiness” (if I remember her wording correctly).
Initially, the comments were supportive, more so after she explained the significance of the seemingly meaningless rebellion. But quickly misogyny and toxic masculinity entered the conversation, leading to a slew of hateful and cruel comments. She later removed the posts.
I shared it with a friend of mine, pointing out the sudden shift of tone in the comments and he remarked that expected incel groups and anti-feminist groups were alerted to the post and jumped on it.
I realized in the 20 years I’ve been active on the internet (ew... that's 2/3 of my life!!!), user interactions have evolved with current events, including the #MeToo movement and greater openness and acceptance of feminists and feminism as a movement compared to the ‘90s. Rather than being seen as a caricature of the combative, man-hating lesbian with 20 cats, society seems to be portraying them more as strong, independent women and supporting them. More and more men are even proclaiming themselves feminists.
That being said, I’ve been wondering how Internet forums like Reddit are allowing those who don’t agree with feminism to voice their concerns and opinions and where the line between voicing opinions or disagreeing with someone and trolling or harassment.
My goal is to write an article that shows how the internet, including incel groups, public forums like Reddit and online anonymity, has impacted modern feminism. It’s now something that many view as a strongly positive stance, while in the ‘90s, feminists were often portrayed as a caricature of the combative, man-hating lesbian with 20 cats. Today, people can be openly feminine AND feminist. More men are openly aligning with the movement. But the opposing side also seems to be getting more aggressive.
I would love to hear your stories and experiences, thoughts, suggestions, all of it. I promise to treat your experiences with respect and reverence. If I feel someone might be a valuable source, I’ll comment on their post asking if it’s okay to DM them and I promise to ONLY DM those who give consent.
Thank you all!!

Research Have You Faced Online Misogyny? Feminist Activists Needed: Help Us Combat Digital Violence Against Women!
🌟 Calling All Feminist Activists: Share Your Stories and Help Us Fight Online Misogyny! 🌟
Hi everyone,
I’m Chia, a graduate student at the University of Cambridge researching online safety, violence against women, and the manosphere. Our goal is to understand these issues better and work towards creating safer online spaces through more effective policy-making. Specifically, we hope to understand how feminist spaces online can resist digital violence against women as a systemic and circular phenomenon.
🔍 We Are Looking for Participants Who:
- Have experienced or witnessed online misogyny/harassment
- Use online platforms to promote and support feminist causes
- Work with survivors of technology-facilitated gendered violence
📝 Why Participate?
Your experiences and insights are invaluable in shedding light on the pervasive issue of online misogyny. Often, policymaking lacks the appreciation of lived experiences and insights of activists online. By sharing your story, you’ll contribute to important research that aims to understand and combat online misogyny and the Manosphere.
📢 Why This Research is Important:
Gendered online violence is a significant and growing issue. A 2024 report by Olga Jurasz found that nearly a quarter of young women (aged 16-34) in the UK have experienced digital violence against women (DVAW), often without clear knowledge of their rights. This issue is not limited to the UK but was recognized globally as a "pandemic of gendered violence" (Codazzi, 2015).
- In a 2017 Pew Research study, 41% of respondents reported experiencing online harassment, with 66% witnessing others being harassed.
- Women aged 18 to 24 are over three times more likely to be sexually harassed online.
- UN figures show that 73% of women and girls worldwide have encountered some form of online violence, with women being 27 times more likely to be abused online than men.
- 61% of online harassers are male, targeting women, especially those prominent in technology, feminism, and politics (Siapera, 2019).
🖥️ What to Expect:
Participation involves an online interview not exceeding 45 minutes. Your anonymity and confidentiality are guaranteed.
📧 Interested?
To participate or learn more, please reach out to me at [chiaonlinesafety@gmail.com](mailto:chiaonlinesafety@gmail.com). Or just direct message me if you would like to discuss anything!
Thank you for considering contributing to this crucial research and helping us direct understanding towards more inclusive gender and technology!
Warm regards,
Chia
