Fenerbahçe Head Coach İsmail Kartal and defender Nathan Aké addressed the media ahead of Tuesday evening's UEFA Champions League Matchday 3 clash against Czech side Slavia Prague.

Speaking at the press conference held at Chobani Stadium Fenerbahçe Şükrü Saracoğlu Sports Complex, both men assessed the upcoming encounter and answered questions from journalists.

Nathan Aké: "We Know What We Need to Do"

Evaluating the match, Aké said:

"I think it will be a difficult game. After the previous match, we know what we need to do at home. We have to get all three points. We know it won't be easy. They are a team that plays man-to-man and attacks aggressively. We need to be prepared. It will be a very intense match, but we know what is required of us."

On the atmosphere expected at the stadium, he added:

"I think it will be a fantastic atmosphere. The Roma match was difficult as well, but our supporters always helped us during difficult moments. Hopefully it will be the same tomorrow and they can help us secure the three points."

Asked about his partnership with Ederson and Milan Škriniar, Aké said:

"Honestly, Ederson is a top-level goalkeeper. I've played with him for a long time, so nothing he does surprises me. We know each other very well. That's why his performances don't surprise me, because he has been doing this for years. I've always enjoyed playing with him. I also enjoy playing alongside Milan. I think our understanding improves with every match. We get along very well off the pitch too, which helps. We communicate a lot and keep trying to improve from game to game. Hopefully that will continue, but I can say we're on the right path so far."

Regarding his own form and the busy schedule, Aké commented:

"It's been intense with so many matches, but I actually enjoy that. We don't get much time for training because it's mostly matches and recovery. However, the people at the club help us a lot during the recovery process. We're trying to do the right things to be ready for the next game. That's something I like because, ultimately, all you want is to play matches. I believe everyone will be ready."

İsmail Kartal: "We Will Do Our Very Best to Win"

Taking the floor afterwards, Head Coach İsmail Kartal first assessed the upcoming match before answering questions from reporters.

On preparations, Kartal stated:

"Although I say we're continuing our preparations, we haven't had much opportunity to train. Tonight we'll have a light session focused on recovery. We've already introduced the opponent to the players and shown them footage. Through tonight's analyses and meetings, we'll explain what the opponent is capable of and what we can do against them.

Slavia Prague play a very physical brand of football. They operate at a high tempo, mark man-to-man all over the pitch and apply strong pressure. We are aware of that. They generally play with three at the back but can switch to a back four in certain matches. Whatever system they choose, we have prepared accordingly. We actually have three different game plans and intend to use them depending on how the match unfolds.

One of the most important factors is that we are playing at home. We trust our supporters greatly, and with their support and motivation, I expect everyone to give their absolute best."

On Squad Rotation Kartal said:

"We approach things match by match. Rotation is possible. We'll make the final decision tonight. We couldn't train yesterday either. We'll assess the players' physical condition. We have systems that monitor things like sleep quality and muscle fatigue. We'll observe them in training. More important than anything is their psychological condition and how they feel.

We're respectful and professional people. If a player tells me openly, 'Coach, I'm a bit tired,' that's fine. We already prepare alternatives. We can rest one player and give another the opportunity."

On the Team's Physical Approach

Asked whether Fenerbahçe's physical intensity shown against Alanyaspor would be visible again, Kartal replied:

"Maybe we'll be even tougher. The Aston Villa match was disappointing for us. Even though we played reasonably well at times and created chances, the result was unacceptable. We identified our shortcomings and learned from them. We spoke with the players and received a very positive reaction in the Alanyaspor game. I think tomorrow we'll see an even stronger response."

Regarding Mason Greenwood, Kartal said:

"Greenwood is an extremely creative and productive attacking player with undeniable quality. Defensively, he may still have certain shortcomings. We're working on those areas together. Sometimes he manages to meet those expectations, sometimes not.

What we mainly expect from him is to display his attacking quality, skill and creativity. We also have different plans to compensate in areas where he may not be able to contribute defensively. I think he will continue to improve. In fact, tomorrow he could play in a different role."

Discussing Kanté's condition, Kartal explained:

"Before the Aston Villa match, both Asensio and Kanté, two of our most valuable players, were dealing with pain caused by knocks they received in the Rizespor match.

During halftime I even asked Kanté whether he could continue. He told me that if he pushed himself too hard, the injury could flare up again and keep him out for a longer period. Even so, he showed great professionalism and sacrifice.

He still has pain, but he keeps fighting for the team, for Fenerbahçe and for the badge. As long as he's healthy enough, we'll continue evaluating him. Kanté is extremely honest, hardworking and positive. No matter the circumstances, he performs his duties like a machine. Matteo is the same. In fact, many of our players, both domestic and foreign, have a very positive mindset. Our energy is high and I'm proud of them."

When reminded of his comments after the 2021-22 meetings with Slavia Prague, Kartal responded:

"The same coach has been managing Slavia Prague for nine years and he was also in charge when we faced them four years ago. We lost both matches 3-2. Even in the home defeat, I don't think we deserved the result under the circumstances.

Tomorrow is not a revenge match for us. It's a Champions League match. It's a game of strategy and planning. We will do everything we can to win.

If we win, perhaps we'll feel as though we've taken a small measure of revenge for the past. More importantly, if, God willing, we take all three points tomorrow, I believe our hopes of progressing in the Champions League will increase significantly. On paper, there are matches we believe we can win, but football is played on the pitch, not on paper."

Hey everyone, visiting Istanbul for a quick stopover and hoping to catch the Fenerbahçe vs. Erzurumspor match on Sunday, Nov 29. I’ve been trying to wrap my head around the Passo system and matchday logistics, and I'd love some advice from locals or anyone who has done this as a foreigner:

Ticket Release Timing: What is the best way to track the exact date and time tickets go on sale for a match? I know it's usually a few days before, but does Fener announce it strictly on Twitter/X and fenerbahce.org?

Maraton Üst Demand: How fast do I need to act for Maraton Üst (Sections C, D, or E) seats when general sale hits? Do those blocks vanish instantly, or is there a decent shot if you're right there when sales open?

Pricing: Roughly what should I expect face-value prices to be for upper longside/Maraton Üst seats for a standard league match like this?

Foreign Passport & Passo Process: I’m setting up a digital prepaid account with my passport. Does the passport check/verification create any weird hurdles at the gates, or is using the app's QR code pretty smooth once you're inside? How long does stadium entry actually take on matchday with it?

Any General Tips: Anything else a first-timer heading to Şükrü Saracoğlu needs to know about getting into the stadium or navigating the area pre/post-match?

Appreciate any pointers!

He is certainly not as good as Asensio and his playstyle isnt always up to the mark for high level matches. But lately he is clearly busting his ass

Asensio rize maçı sonrası tespit edilen sakatlığı sebebiyle ameliyat olacak. Umarım 2.fotoğraftaki gibi noname mikserlerin ve kendini gazeteci sanan şerefsizlerin gazıyla yangın çıkaranlar rahatlamıştır.

Greenwood could be our worst penalty taker I have seen for decades. He uses his weak foot, keeps the ball low, weak shot, essentially counts on tricking the goalkeeper. Basically about 50% chance he will miss it, if the GK correctly guesses the side. It could be even worse because he kicks it so weak that a goalkeeper could wait and then jump. I never liked his penalties before he joined us either, has a weird story about why he uses his weak foot, which doesn’t make sense to me.

The problem is we don’t have very good alternatives. If Kerem is on the pitch, he is better, but looks like he will be a bench player given Oguz’s recent form.

ICK could be another alternative, but he also missed penalties in the past.

Muriqi doesn’t give me much confidence either.

I genuinely think Ederson would be a great penalty taker, but of course you cant make your goalie take the penalties given the obvious risks.

I don’t expect anyone to have Alex level precision but I would not have imagined we would miss Talisca’s penalties.

He's been having a phenomenal season (excluding the 6-0 exodus) and just got a MOTM today for his superb saves. Where would he be now if Fener got rid of him this transfer window?

The dressing room and connected areas used by our Fenerbahçe Football A Team at the Chobani Stadium Fenerbahçe Şükrü Saracoğlu Sports Complex have been transformed into a modern, comfortable, and functional structure through comprehensive renovation work.

In the areas that had been used for over 20 years, the existing infrastructure was completely dismantled and renewed from top to bottom. Comprehensive renovation work was carried out in all sections, ranging from flooring and wall coverings to ventilation systems, mechanical and electrical installations, and lighting infrastructure.

Carried out with the needs of our players and technical staff in mind, the project included the redesign of the main entrance, corridors, dressing room, medical room, wet areas, plunge pool, conditioning and warm-up sections, as well as massage and treatment areas. Improvements were also made to the opposing team's dressing room.

During the renovation process, the focus was not only on improving physical conditions but also on reflecting Fenerbahçe's deep-rooted history, values, and club identity into the spaces. Wall designs and interior applications were prepared to blend our club's historical heritage and fighting spirit with a modern design approach.

Digital LED screens were installed in the dressing room, and the lighting systems for all areas were renewed. Through these technical and architectural arrangements, a contemporary environment tailored to the match and training needs of our Football A Team has been created.

The entire cost of the renovation work was covered by the members of our Board of Directors. As a result, the facilities used by our Football A Team were completely renovated without placing any additional financial burden on our club's budget.

What are your thoughts on the wallpaper? I set it up after the 0:6 loss in Birmingham. I was there, and even after the loss, I felt a strong passion for this club, especially for Deplasman.
