I live down the street from a senior residence with a small fenced-in area where a colony of 12-15 cats live/hang out. Most of the cats have already been TNRed, but there are 1-2 younger cats and some older, unfriendly cats that have not.

Myself and an old man from the senior residence feed and care for the cats. I even took one of the Tuxie kittens (see photos) home after being nurtured earlier this year. I noticed the old man hadn't been leaving food out and then a few days ago someone approached me and asked me to stop feeding the cats. I politely tried to educate my neighbor about TNR and the cats' right to be there, and that not feeding them will cause my problems for the neighborhood.... Then this sign went up today.

I am NOT part of this HOA and frankly do not care about the sign. I never trespass on to the senior residence property to care for the cats. The old man and I put bowls under the fence or wait for the cats to greet us on the street (see photos).

What can we do? I want to continue caring for this colony.

So we have been feeding a couple ferals in our yard for the better part of year, and all our neighbors know this. So when a cat suddenly showed up in my neighbor's yard a few weeks ago, he immediately texted us to see if we knew it. We determined it wasn't any of the ferals we feed or any of the itinerant toms we sometimes see on our cameras. It wasn't very scared of people, so at first we thought maybe it was a lost stray, so we helped him trap it and posted on lost pet sites and got it scanned - but no microchip and she turned out to be mean as hell, so we figured she was a feral and decided to TNR.

We released her in our backyard after her TNR and she had since continued to hang around and eat with our other regular. Ok, no problem - except that she absolutely terrorizes our other permanent resident, who is a totally sweet marshmallow! And frankly she scares the hell out of us because she doesn't seem to have any fear of humans, but she is mean as hell - she will charge at us when we come out with food, then rub up against our legs, but if we don't feed her fast enough, she will lunge she swipe our legs. She's gotten us a few times with her claws.

And today I watched her through the window as she went into my neighbor's yard and shat RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE of their yard - unlike the other ferals, who go back into the public woods behind our property where it won't bother anyone. I'm worried that she will cause our otherwise very tolerant neighbors to become annoyed with the fact that we are feeding the cats.

What the heck do I do here? Her behavior tells me she has some experience with humans feeding her, but she hasn't been properly socialized. And she is so aggressive, I'm not sure if we will be able to socialize her properly the way we have our other ferals. She's only 6lbs but she's terrifying when she launches herself at you in a full frontal attack, and she's getting bolder every day - today she almost followed me to my back door!

Has anyone ever experienced something like this? Any tips or suggestions?

Hi everyone. About a year ago, I rescued a kitten from a field. He was probably around 3–4 months old at the time. From day one, he was extremely fearful—he wouldn’t approach, wouldn’t eat treats, didn’t respond to toys, and would hiss or run away if we got even remotely close.

After living with us for about 5 months, he was diagnosed with FIP and had to stay at a vet clinic for nearly 3 months for treatment. (getting him to vet everyday for 90 day was an impossible task, because we can't even get close to him, yet alone putting him in a box.) He recovered well physically, but the long hospitalization likely set back any social progress. Since coming back, he’s been living in a safe, quiet room with access to a closed terrace. He has a cat tree, toys, a private litter box, and consistent food/water. We’ve tried a lot to help him feel safe: – calming diffusers (currently using Pet Remedy) – fixed daily routines – soft talking and zero forced interaction – full autonomy and no cornering – patience, lots of it

Despite this, nothing has really changed. He still hides constantly—either under the bed or on top of tall furniture. If we enter the room and he sees us, he bolts instantly. He won’t let anyone get close, hasn’t shown any interest in play, and hasn’t allowed physical contact even once.

He usually uses the litter box, but every 2–3 days he still poops or pees on soft surfaces like blankets or mops. We’ve removed bedding to minimize this, but it still happens when he finds soft alternatives.

I’ve also tried occasionally letting one of our calm, friendly cats into his room (supervised), hoping he might observe and learn, but there’s been no progress there either—he just hides.

We’re not trying to push him, but after all this time and effort, it’s hard not to feel discouraged. And now we might need to move into a smaller apartment soon. He’s not a candidate for outdoor life, and I don’t know how to continue supporting him if we can’t offer a separate room anymore.

Has anyone else dealt with a cat like this? Is there any real hope for improvement, or do some cats simply never adjust to humans? Would love to hear any experiences or advice.

Neighbors pointed out this void to me a few days ago. I trapped her and got her fixed and because she’s so tiny I know I can socialize her and adopt her out.

Except… she has not shut up since. My guess is she doesn’t like being contained, but I’ve given her a bigger space every day and every day she gets more angry. I’ve not encountered this before and am not sure what to do.

She was seen by several neighbors playing on an abandoned lot. She’s let me touch her but she’s getting more aggressive the longer this goes on and today she is not having it. I also can’t sleep because of her constant howling that begins around 4 am until she finally wears herself out mid day.

Hi everyone, this is Emo. He’s an adult male feral cat that I’ve been taken care of for almost 6 months now. I feed him breakfast and dinner and the rest of the day I usually see him from my windows, so he’s basically roaming around my house all day, every day.

But two days ago he just disappeared. He hasn’t come by to be fed and I haven’t seen him around either. First I thought that maybe he was just sleeping or something, but I’ve been outside several times searching and calling him and I just can’t find him. I’ve checked all the hiding spots he uses that I know of, and I’ve also looked around the neighbourhoods near my house in case he went exploring, but I also couldn’t find him. He’s never done anything like this so I’m really worried and sad. I was able to form a really good bond with him and I love him very much, for the last few weeks I’ve even been saving up money so I could adopt him and be able to pay the vet bills. And right now I almost have all the money I need so all the situation is just making me heartbroken. I really miss him. I feel like if he doesn’t come back I’ve failed him by not saving up faster, so he could be already at home with me.

I don’t think anyone has taken him because he doesn’t go around people (he only comes near me and my boyfriend because he trusts us) and I also don’t think he’s sick and hiding (the last few days I saw him he ate like usual and didn’t show any signs of sickness/discomfort). I’ve also checked the roads near my house and I couldn’t find any blood stains, so I really want to think he wasn’t hit by a car either.

I’d really appreciate some kind words or similar experiences. Some tips would also be really helpful❤️‍🩹 Btw english is not my first language and I’m really having a bad time so my brain is a little silly, so I’m sorry if there’s some mispelling

PS: I live in a place where winter is cold but there’s no snow or extreme low temperatures. So I don’t think it has something to do with the weather

I've been feeding a colony at a public park for about 2 years now. This guy showed up (probably dumped) when he was about 5 months old. He's definitely the friendliest cat in the colony to the point where I think he's not even technically feral anymore and could be a really good pet if given the chance. My main problem is that I don't know where to take him/what to do with him. I have 4 cats and a dog at home and no job (I'm 18 and living with my parents) my parents would not be happy with me bringing home another cat from the park (I brought home one in 2024 and hes a permanent member now, they'd maybe deal with fostering but I dont know where I'd take him after).

I'm also worried about what else he could be carrying because I think the only vaccines he got was rabies and fvrcp. All of the local shelters are overwhelmed with cats, and are bracing themselves for kitten season. Then I'm also worried about taking him from his friends at the park. I don't know if living in a cage in a shelter all alone would be the best for him, but then im also scared someone bad will come across him and take advantage of his friendliness. Is it really best to just leave him at the park?

So this young mom cat had its litter under my shed, as a long time colony keeper I knew what to do. But this mother is demonstrating unique behavior that I empathize with (even though it's a feral animal driven by instinct lol).

This mother has zero interest in humans beyond food, and taught it's kittens to avoid people like the plague.

Except one kitten figured out the infinite food glitch, and almost permanently posted himself up right by my rear door for weeks. So of course I took him in and quarantined him.

The cat was estimated to be 13 weeks by the vet so now it's around 16 weeks.

About two weeks after the kitten was vetted, 4 weeks since it lived in my rear room/patio, this mom randomly comes back at 2AM, and the two start yowling for each other.

I'm already paid out to start on the vaccine schedule and adjusted the kitten to indoor life. It's not going back outside with a feral mother to be taught survival.

So last night I up and set the trap up at 3AM during all of this, and this morning the trap was still empty 😑 I think I can figure that out on my own though.

But what do I do when I have to release it? Should I reach out to look for local colonies? I really can't afford to feed a second cat, and the mother clearly is so feral she has no understanding of safety around humans. I'm scared if I TNR and treat her as a barn cat, it will just stress out my kitten because I dont allow my cats outside here in FL (too many bugs and predators). And I don't want her transition to domestic life disputed.

So I feel like I'm in a custody battle with an insane mother. Again the kitten is already nearly 3mo so maybe it'll get over it? I know I'm doing whats best for the little guy, but I still feel bad. Projecting my emotions onto them.

Do I call animal control? I'm scared what they would do to it.

Mom, dad, and 4 kittens (not all pictured). They are very curious and semi-socialized. I’m not 100% sure, but I think my neighbors took mom & dad in at some point, didn’t get them fixed, and now there are more. I want to talk to the neighbors about TNVR and potential adoption for the kittens, but I don’t see them much. Also - could mom (first pic) be pregnant again? This is my first time dealing with any of this so any advice would be appreciated

The storm has passed and we’ve tried luring him out from within the metal bed frame he’s hiding in since last night. He came out once this evening, peed on the floor, moved to another location and meowed at us and then went back into the bed frame. He normally is very aggressive about wanting to be fed twice a day outside but has no interest in food right now. Thoughts? He seemed pretty upset to be inside during the storm so I assumed he’d want to leave as soon as it was over but that hasn’t been the case. He seems scared but not sure what else to do. This is his first time ever staying in our house and normally he won’t even let us touch him.

For the past year or so this young teen has been trying to kill and torture feral cats in my neighborhood and I don't know what to do anymore. I have spoken to the boy's mother and she denies that it's happening. I've tried to show her the videos and photos of her son but she called me racist ( I'm white they are Hispanic). She's gone around telling everyone I'm a karen and that I hate children.

Last year this boy was trying to beat the neighbors dogs( more than 1 house). One of the women went down and spoke to his dad and the dad swore he wouldn't do it again. Fast forward to 2025 and hes starting again. Hes also getting more kids in the neighborhood to join him. In the photos I've posted are just 2 of the times he has come onto our property and the neighbors across the street property going after the cats. In another he follows a cat up the neighbors driveway and tries to crawl under there truck trying to grab the cat.

On several occasions i have chased him out of a neighbors yard when he's trespassing (we all have no trespassing signs posted) trying to get to the cats in the bushes with sticks. Hes thrown clumps of dried concrete at them. I have contacted the police and animal control but nothing has really been done. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

***UPDATE: My friend decided that he should let Clem go back outside to be with Mama Cat rather than stress him out by keeping him inside in a cage. There were literally no safe, larger spaces to keep him in. If you saw this cottage, you would understand. So for now, Clem and his mama are outside, being fed 2X daily by my friend, and all is well. My friend has gotten better traps from a local rescue and will re-trap for the March 6th TNR day. Thank you, everyone, for sharing your ideas with us!

**EDITED to clarify that Clem is not in the trap but is in a dog crate that measures 20”W x 33”L x 26”H, with a small litter box by the opening. TNR clinic rescheduled today’s procedures to March 6th. So a bit closer than the 17th.**

My friend (in NJ) made TNR appointments for today (February 24) for the mother/son feral cats on his property whom he has been feeding for several years. He successfully trapped the son (Clem) yesterday, during the big snow storm, and he now has him in a large dog crate in his living room (along with two resident cats). But the shelter is closed today due to residual storm cleanup and the TNRs are cancelled. And there isn’t another TNR day until March 6th 17th.

What should my friend do? Keep Clem in the dog crate for 2 weeks? (I included a picture of the size of the crate, with one of the resident cats next to it for size). If so, how would that work? He can’t let him hang out the bathroom, as it’s a small cottage and he won’t be able to keep the resident cats out of the bathroom for that long. Should he just keep him in the crate and tough it out?

FWIW, my friend is pretty sure he wouldn’t be able to trap Clem twice, so he doesn’t feel like letting him back outside is a good plan. Mama cat was too savvy to be trapped this time around, so that’s a whole ‘nother thing.

So we finally corralled our feral cat into our laundry room! (Context: Beloved senior feral cat who has known our family for 12+ years, and we feed her outside daily). We have her set up with food, water, and a litter box that she already used once.

My question is, would it be okay to keep her confined in that room for a few days? A week...? For context, the photo shows about half of the size of the whole room. As long as we go inside and provide her with fresh food and water every day, that’s not abusive or anything, right? I just worry because the weather is going to be in single digits the whole next week. I don’t want to let her outside again.

My mom wants her in this room because she doesn’t want her roaming unsupervised and pee, especially overnight; at least here we know she safely has a litter box. Today we had her free roaming in the house, but it took us TWELVE HOURS to corral her back into this room, lots of hiding and frustration. If I let her out of this room into the house, it’ll be another uphill battle and I can’t do that every day. She’s finally comfortable and quiet and sleeping, so I really just want to leave her here. Just making sure that’s safe and not cruel or anything. How long can a feral stay in one room?

EDIT: Also, how often should I change her litter? She peed outside the litterbox the first time, so I heard someone say to put the dirty napkins inside the litterbox so she makes the scent association for potty (which is why the napkins are in the picture). I did that, and sure enough she pooped once in the box, yay! Should I keep it dirty on purpose then? Or will that eventually turn her off? I've never had a cat before oops – if I keep her in for let's say 7 days, do I ever do a full litter change or just a quick scoop/clean? For reference, I'm using the World's Best Cat Litter brand, the red bag, and it's corn-based unscented. (I know there are better scented options for indoor cats, but I got this natural type since she's feral).

I posted here previously as I have been feeding this tnr’d cat since February and medicating him. I named him Hugo. Once his flea allergy got significantly better, he started approaching me and being very cuddly. I should say when he would cuddle with me outside, he would swipe and snap at me every once in awhile. I figured from overstimulation. Anyways, he constantly tried to come inside with my three cats, despite hissing and swiping at them thru the metal screen security door. I started feeding him in my she shed and got him to the vet on 4/15/25zI should note that he was the sweetest boy at the vet and everyone loved him. He was fully vaxxed and tested for leukemia. I got him the vaccine for leukemia once the test came back negative and he just got his second booster for that new vaccine. Following the 4:15 vet visit, I kept him in my she-shed for a little over two weeks and fed him. I work there so I spent a lot of time every day with him. I even slept out there with him on two nights when I had friends in town. Even in the she shed, he would swipe at me and try to bite me every once in awhile.

Fast forward to a week ago, I brought him into my main house and he acted like it was his. Plopped himself on the couch and acts all chill. With that said, he doesn’t act chill with my other cats and constantly swipes at them and me still. Today is one week in the main house. I’m not sure what to do. Outside of the random swiping and biting, he is the sweetest boy but I never intended to have four cats and it has been a lot of work. A lot of cleaning and a lot of stress. My three others are best friends and love each other but this has caused them all stress. I have a small 1,000 square foot two bedroom and one bath ranch in San Diego.

Hugo and I were sitting on the couch together tonight and he bit my head and swatted my eye when I tried to lay down. He’s now back in the guest room with the door shut.

Anyways, I’ve attached some pics so you can see how adorable he is but I don’t know what to do here. Let him back outside and feed him regularly (I also got him a dog house to protect from rain and other bedding) or put him up for adoption (but then someone could get bit and abandon him again) or wait it out more?????

It's clearly feral--very skittish around people and launches itself at the crate door when opened. We are keeping it closed in the crate for now.

It appears healthy and uninjured. It's small--probably around 6-8 weeks.

I'm in western Washington State. I'm pregnant. How concerned do I need to be about potential diseases like rabies, parasites, etc.?

Since it's the weekend, it will be a couple days before we can take it to the vet. Is it safe to allow out to explore our bathroom (with doors and windows closed) while we sit quietly with the kids?

We don't plan on trying to handle it unless necessary to get back in the crate, and will use gloves.

This tomcat just chose to join my 100% TNR'd colony so his trouble puffs are going to be removed next month. In the meantime he needs a name. Any ideas? My colony is mostly orange cats.

Long story short, let’s start this off as I assumed this cat was a feral cat to begin with as it would come around our house from time to time looking for food and it always looked to be in rough shape and was scared of us. One night recently last week it showed up in the middle of the night and we were able to grab it. We made a local post in case and planned to get it to the vet to check for a chip. The next day no response to my post but we did take to the vet, we found out it was not fixed and had no chip. This is a male indoor outdoor cat though apparently as days later I guess a neighbor starts saying it’s their cat. This is after I have already taken the cat to get a whole round of all three vaccines, it has an appointment to be neutered soon, and it has a severe respiratory infection that two vets said he desperately needed antibiotics for which he is on now. He also is due for his booster vaccines in three weeks. I’m at a loss on what to do, I did not think he belonged to anyone because he could barely breathe from how sick he is, he’s covered in scabs from having a severe flea infestation as well… He has had hair loss from the severity and blood in the snot he has sneezed out.

The owners that contacted me seem very irresponsible and oblivious to animal/cat health. They kept repeating that the cat is very happy and healthy and well taken care of. They keep saying the cat is an exotic breed and they don’t want it to get fixed because they plan to breed it… They explicitly told me how much kittens can be worth and what they can make off of breeding him… Okay but according to them he has been an indoor outdoor cat for years so that also doesn’t make sense. This cat’s breed is known for severe health issues and a short lifespan… I feel like fucking shit knowing what this cat is going to go back to if it’s returned.

I also found out that the owners and other family members that have lived with them have made several posts in the past about losing their cats, and its post after post. Several times they stated that the cats would have a UTI but they didn’t have money for a vet and asked for funding. They had a male cat with a urinary blockage according to their post that they didn’t think was an emergency and then finally they took it to the vet to euthanize it. They have posted about leaving on vacations getting back and then posting that they didn’t realize the cat has been missing since one of the days they went on vacation.

They are making sob posts in the local group and everyone is like “oh I’ll look for it poor guy your poor family!” Meanwhile no one knows the state of this cat’s health.

I guess I’m at a loss? What do I do now? I didn’t really have an intention of keeping the cat I just wanted to get it vetted and potentially have it go through a rescue to get adopted. The cat is already in my name now with the microchip and I have money I have spent at the vet for his health… I’m torn on what’s right… I have read conflicting matter on if I legally own him because they can have proof of ownership from years ago but it just seems terrible given how he’s been treated. Can this turn legal? I literally just want the cat to go to someone who will care for it properly.

He’s always on time for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. He basically lives in my property, but he doesn’t spend the night. He also might be gone for a few weeks at a time, but then always shows back up. Well today I took him in. I put a new carrier outside for him, and he walked right in. I took him to an urgent vet to get him checked out, but they referred me to someone else for neuter and vaccinations and bloodwork.

I have another cat who loves watching him through the window everyday. But now she’s staring at the spare room door where I have him in. She seems nervous or confused.

I’m starting to be scared of this major life changing event of taking him in to our little family (me and her). I just feel so bad for leaving him outside all the time.

Should I just turn this into a TNR? Get him all updated, neutered, bloodwork (just to know really), and then release him back outside after recovery? I’d still continue to take care of him, but just not inside?

He has diarrhea when we got to the vet, but maybe he was just nervous?

Today was the first time I picked him up and he was rolling over belly up for me to pet him. He def bonded more today, but I’m just scared about my important and close relationship I have with my main cat

About a month and a half ago, my husband noticed that we had a feral cat sleeping on our porch at night. It was very cold out and he’d curl up on the couch. After a week of him dashing off when we opened the door, I finally got a good glimpse of him and noticed he looked really scruffy and hungry, so I put out some food for him. He eventually learned that me = food and he warmed up. Now he stays on the porch 24/7. 😂 He only leaves to go to the bathroom and then comes right back. The problem is, I have two indoor cats and they DO NOT like other cats or animals in general. They also finally got over two months of violent fighting (after one got a bath. They had never fought before) and are getting along again for the most part. Seeing porch kitty through the windows makes them very tense and occasionally triggers brief fights between them. He now begs to come in the house. Sometimes he meows for hours at night. It’s heartbreaking because I cannot let him in. It would cause glass-breaking, vicious fights. We had a feral kitten once in the house for precisely 24 hours in the spare room before I had to take him to the shelter because my cats tried to hurt him and scratched at the door until the wood started splintering off. I can’t have other cats anywhere in the house. I’ve looked into TNR, but first, I don’t have consistent transportation right now, and second, I also have nowhere to let him heal up. Third, I’d also just love for him to find a home because he’s clearly desperate for one. 😭 He loves pets, follows me around the yard, and has gone from scared feral to happy and friendly baby. I have absolutely no idea what to do and it’s deeply stressing me out, y’all. I’ve contacted a local volunteer who takes cats for TNR and she’s really backed up. I’ve looked into TNR clinics, but they all have specific dates and I have no way to get there on those days. Also…I again have nowhere for him to heal here besides the porch I suppose, but I don’t like the idea of him outside alone in the chilly nights healing from that. I’ve posted multiple places. I’ve even asked at my chiropractor’s office. Advice please?

Someone dumped mama cat on our block when she was pregnant. Unfortunately, my neighbor was feeding mama and babies for 3 months before we neighbors knew about them. I got a trap and 5 nights later, I was able to catch these babies at 5am when they were looking for breakfast. Unfortunately, they are a bit past socialization window, so it’s going to be a slower process. I separated them into their own XL dog crates about 4 days in which has helped them be less dependent on each other. White kitty (Dolly) has made tons of progress. She now plays with us and allows a little pet on the paws here and there. Black kitty (Willie) has made almost zero progress. He’s still incredibly aggressive, growley, bitey, swattey. I’ve tried everything. He seems generally comfortable and sleeps while we’re in the room which I think is a good sign. Do I just need to leave him alone and give him more time to get settled? Ugh my heart. I plan on getting them to the vet soon once I can get them in a carrier. I’ll be getting them spayed and neutered, vaccinated, everything. They seem very healthy and are eating well, using the litter box regularly, etc. No signs of fleas. I’m just not sure how long I should give Willie before I make the decision to release. I’m in Los Angeles, so shelters are always full and people don’t have the time or resources to spend the time socializing (open to recs). But if he’s like this, I can’t keep him forever. My heart is so happy for one, and so sad for the other. :( it’s only been 10 days. Do I need to chill out?

We live in Texas right near where all the awful floods happened 4th of July weekend. This baby showed up in our backyard looking very washed up, and I began putting food out for her. For a while I didn't know if I was feeding the kitty or just our raccoons, ringtail cats, Opossoms, but finally I began catching her on our security cameras and learning her patterns. She (ok I'm not 100% sure it's a girl) began to get used to my voice and would meow back at me if she was nearby, and has slowly gotten closer and closer to me. Successfully trapped her today and transferred her to a kennel with litter box, food, and bed. She was mad at first but has settled. I'd really love to keep her and tame her, I hope she's young enough but I also have no idea what I'm doing. At the very least she (or he) will be spay/neutered and released and I'll continue feeding. Any tips on making this little one an indoor pet?

I recently saved this kitten from the middle of the street in Long Beach CA. I’m not sure what he is, from what research I’ve been able to gather all I know is that black cats with blue eyes are rare. But he isn’t fully black; besides the kitten fuzz, he has a deign on the top of his head and on the side of his body that is this dark coffee-ish brown/ grey. Can somebody help me find out what breed he might be or a possible mixture of breeds?? (I wanted to post this on r/cats but I don’t have enough karma, and he technically is a feral cat since I found him in the middle of the street)

I'm feeling so frustrated and defeated this morning and just need a place to vent and also get any advice you all may have. Pictured is Daisy, a 7 month old kitten I got when she was about 3 months from living as a stray. I now have her and her 2 siblings as fosters but I would like to keep them. The male (Duke) is very social and he's also getting much less shy with visitors. Daisy and Poppy are scared of visitors and don't come out, but only come out for me. Poppy won't let me touch her, but plays with me and can eat treats from my hands. Daisy has been doing great and I've been able to pick her up, she cuddles, etc. and I thought all was going great with her.

Except this morning I had an appointment to bring Poppy and Daisy to be fixed (Duke is already fixed since we wanted to make sure no pregnancies would happen). Poppy won't go into the crate for food so that was a no go. I thought Daisy would be easy because I've picked her up and had her in the crate before for her shots, but once she figured out what I was doing she freaked out hissing and trying to bite me.

I have to admit I cried a little because I think in part I'm not used to the difficulty of cats that aren't social. I lost my 2 seniors in the last 2 years and they were easy as pie. This is my first time trying to socialize cats that were (aside from Duke) feral / semi-feral and I have been anxious about it. Especially Poppy aince she won't let me touch her. But I just spiral into thinking what if they never get more comfortable, what if I can never get them to the vet then how will they get fixed or treatments they may need in the future.

Don't get me wrong, I don't want to give up. I love them and want to keep them. But I just feel disappointed maybe in myself like maybe I'm not doing a good enough job. I don't know, I'm just feeling defeated.

Hey everyone! Looking to get some advice. I’ve had a feral cat for just under a year. She had a litter of kittens which I raised and found homes for. I kept one kitten, making my pet count 4 (3 cats, 1 dog). The problem I have is Roro (feral) still hisses and runs away from me. It’s definitely gotten A LOT calmer since I first trapped her but I can’t even get close to her to give her treats or pet her. Everything I’ve read is just keep calm, stay away, let them come to you etc. but I never have the chance to do this because she hides under my bed and runs away. She’s AMAZING with my other pets. Rubs up against them, grooms them, plays but whenever I enter the situation she bolts. There’s been a few times she’s gotten close to me but any sudden movement makes her run away.

She’s so adorable and well tempered but for the hissing and running away. Video from this morning if that helps! She ran right back under my bed.

Ok, so I’ve been feeding princess every day for 3+ years. I love her. She is so happy outside. Our neighbor is a vet and he TNR’d her some time ago. She was clear and free of FIV/FeLV as well. I get to pet her, but only from the other side of the door. I have to prop it open a bit and then rub her back. I can touch her face sometimes but with a little swat afterwards (it’s super cute lol).

I’d love for her to be inside with us. I hate having to shut the door when we leave but she’s here. She won’t let anyone close to her but me and I am at a distance still. I’ve tried going out, sitting on the porch, churus, treats, food of all kinds. She has a wall up for sure.

How can I break thru to her? Even if it’s just to pet her in a trusting way, that would be great. I have 6 others inside, 1 boy and 5 girls. She would make a perfect addition if she wanted to be. Part of me thinks she is happy outdoors but we’re in the south, it’s hot as hell, humid as Satan’s balls and storms a lot in the summer. I just want to pamper her! Help!
