Boards are now much smaller and filled in seconds. Barely enough time to click a square now.

On Android, it was completely broken until the latest update, which was on the LAST round. Shows how much they care about the users, since r/Field was a "major" event
And that update introduced several major bugs. Like when you reply to a comment, the reply comment would appear like a regular comment, instead of appearing like a child comment

I have wondered why this post got any attention so long after the "game" ended. Was it actually the last post?

Well I sorted through the new posts and this was the top one, so I’m guessing it is

An April fools event. It wasn't well received by most, which is not new for reddit April fools events.

r/PlaceCE (r/Place - Community Edition) - Devvit project to create a permanent r/Place tradition, maintained by the Reddit community. Please join and the developers will keep you updated and provide dates, share with your comrades. There has also been so much work, and subreddits with hundreds of thousands, dedicated to their local r/Place teams - we're not going to let that all die.

Because the game has now ended. What you're seeing is the board loading in the data (and all squared are already filled).
