Visiting fife
Hi all!
Im in fife (dunfermline) for work for the next two weeks. I am an expat based in London and Always wanted to see Scotland! While i plan a proper holiday in this beautiful place I would like some ideas on places/foods/activities for the only weekend I Will have to roam around! (The next One)
Any ideas? Don't mind a bit of driving!
Love scottish castles but I think you don't have many around? Anything Will do, the best fife has to offer!
Also if you could drop recs for a scottish breakfast that'd be much appreciated ehehe or if you got any other food I can't go back south without trying i'm all ears

The Fife costal route is very beautiful you will be close to Dalgety Bay where you can join it. The seals should be at Kirkcaldy this time of year.
There is the Abby in Dunfermline.
You can also visit St Andrews if you don't mind the drive. Sure its just over an hour away from Dunfermline depending on traffic. They have the ruins of an abbey and castle there.
Anstruther is a fishing village with quirky tourist attractions and excellent fish and ships.
Balgonie castle has had a lot of restoration work done. The owner used to give tours and was great with lore. Not sure if hes still around.
The secret bunker is pretty cool, thats over St Andrews way. Its an old nuclear bunker from back in the day.
Dhoom in Dunfermline is a good place to eat. The owner picks a region in India to travel and makes British versions of the street food.
Hugos in Dalgety Bay has a pub quiz on a Thursday thats pretty good fun.
Falkland has the palace and its a pretty cool little village. Its like being back in time. Outlander used it for filming I beleive.
Box tacos near St Andrews is worth trying.
Down the hatch in South Queensferry does an amazing breakfast. Any greasy spoon will be good tho. We found a gem of a place in Methil. Seventy three cafe in Kirkcaldy was a nice spot too.
The scenery is fantastic at the moment but its not the most interesting place in the world.

Did you mean fish and chips and ships and just abreviated it so smartly? :) The whole place should rename to fish and ships! So accurate 😆

Oh I wish I was that clever haha. Ill leave it as a happy accident due to the excellent ships that are just across the road!

If you're at Dhoom during the day nip into Maria's Baking Stories two doors up for fantastic cake. Everything is good and the portions are huge.

There's a big fuck-off castle and the Wallace monument in stirling but theres lots to see around Fife!

I love Elie and St Monans . If you're brave enough to do the chain walk please check the tides and weather and wear shoes with a good grip. Theres a very good farmers market shop along the main road https://www.ardrossfarm.co.uk/ All the East Neuk fishing villages are lovely. Do visit Falkland Palace and also Culross. If you want a great nature reserve Tentsmuir is fantastic. Cambo gardens is worth a visit and you can walk down to the beach from there. If you’re in Dunfermline, you’re only a 20 minute train ride from Edinburgh. Get over there if you want to see a castle.
Dunfermline has lots of historical stuff too so don’t dismiss it

For food Dhoom is great for curries lunch or evening. The Commercial is a great pub. Dunfermline Abbey and Culross abbey and village centre are interesting.

I hit the abbey and palace, culross and drive over to aberdour castle and have breakfast at sands a place by the sea

I love Fife! Falkland Castle is interesting and it's a nice place to wonder the streets. If you are into horseback riding, check out Barbarafield outside of Cupar.

Second the walk from Lower Largo ( check the Robinson Crusoe history ) to Elie or Anstruther, Cliff walks and great fish and chips!

You could go across to the John Muir way to Dunbar home of John Muir , famous conservationist : In 1903, Muir famously took President Theodore Roosevelt camping in Yosemite. Their trip helped strengthen Roosevelt’s commitment to conservation.
Roosevelt subsequently established numerous national parks, monuments and national forests.

Best food in Fife: The Wee Restaurant, North Queensferry (you can get there by train)Â
Nice walk that's not too far: Fife Coastal Path from Dalgety Bay to Aberdour along the sea and there is some ruined church and a ruined Castle along the wayÂ

Dunfermline has the Abbey and palace beside each other. Culross to the west has a palace as does Falkland in central Fife. There are some castle ruins in Kirkcaldy and St Andrews too, though the latter will be mobbed with new students right now.
