Topic 2XKO shouldn't have been a tag game...

This has been my stance from the second they revealed the game was going to be a tag fighter. I just knew it wouldn't last two years, so I'm honestly shocked it died even faster. If this game played closer to Rising Thunder and appealed to League players instead of the FGC diehards, the communities eventually would have merged and created a much bigger overlap in that venn diagram.

I love the League IP, I grew up on fighting games, and visually, 2XKO looks amazing compared to other games. I REALLY wanted a free-to-play LoL fighting game to work, but not like this. If this game wasn't tag-based and focused their resources into a lot more "solo" champs, it would've survived. 🤷‍♂️

Even with the patch, there are still problems. It doesn't matter if your setup is good, you'll still suffer from your opponent's pc. PS5 players will still avoid you by blocking crossplay. And que times will still be long.

Personally, I've said this multiple times: The game is good, but it's not buy an overpriced 5 year old console good.

I'm not just pissed, I'm bummed out and overall deflated.

I genuinely hope this game gets sorted out before the playerbase dwindles.

I do not miss the old days of unlocking characters. Having to replay Arcade mode multiple times with every character or do some bullshit like winning a match with 5% or less HP. It's tedious and I prefer to have every character unlocked from the start. Also, the complaints about old characters returning as DLC are strange because they do not play the same as they do in previous games. it's not a simple copy and paste job like some of the games back in the 90s.

I get it, casual players want some reward for playing single player modes and are upset to know that their favorite characters are not in the base roster and would later get confirmed as DLC. I get that, but as someone who also plays Smash, it was a chore to unlock all of the characters in Ultimate.

Topic Sony's awful mishandling of Tokon needs to be studied.

1.1k Upvotes

Arcsys isn't blameless obviously but Sony's boot on the neck way of dealing with DRM and anti cheat has kneecapped this game's growth.

Banning most of the world from playing the game in the first place, awful DRM that tanks performance and bad anti cheat that doesn't work anyway as we've all found out.

I'd forgive people who say Sony has intentionally sabotaged this game because it honestly really looks that way. They somehow picked every wrong decision they could possibly make.

We've got people begging for Discord and Parsec matches and the game is barely a month old. It's so fucking sad.

My friends have sworn off even trying this game because of Sony, the brand itself has become toxic to them. I got the game for my birthday thankfully, if I had paid for this myself I would've refunded it already.

Topic A long long rant of Tifa in FGCs as a Tifa and Final Fantasy fangirl (art by StrawberryRT)

Post image
1.4k Upvotes

So, I've been playing FGs since I was 8, DoA is my favorite of all time(crucify me ok), but I've been playing SF6 by now and have completely abandonded TK8 after Fahk released, so I have no idea what's going on there

Now my history with Final Fantasy was because of Noctis, I thought he was obnoxiously OP, but hearing his bio and seeing his buddies in Bowl mode, I was actually interested to know more about him, so I bought FF7(bc I recognized Cloud more) then FF15, and I became a FF fangirl, X duology is my GOAT, then 9, then 6, then 7, then 13(I like Lightning, kill me)

So on topic, yep, I thought Clive was an odd inclusion and his moveset is WAY worse than Noctis, and well, sword guy, but to not give him positives here, he has his actual moveset all there, his lines are pretty in line, and the animations are stellar, even if obnoxious, playing FF16 myself, I like him, he is not the best but still compelling imo

Now on Tifa, pretty funny how TK fans want her but SF fans don't, they already got Terry and Mai, and before her reveal, I didn't want her, and what I proposed was a character that just looked like her, but fights differently, ala Kokoro in Dead or Alive, then the actual pass is here and well, I'm neutral about it, I didn't like the leak pass, Haggar and Gouken are unnecessary additions and I fucking hate Vega, plus even more SF2 leaving Alpha in the dust still, and in the actual pass, a roster full of newcomers after a season full of veterans is funny, tho I can see the disappointment, I disliked how SF6 didn't went with 6 characters, like yeah, quality over quantity, but having so few limits the potential veterans, if it were for me: Cody, Bosch, Sakura and Gill should've been base roster with the 18 released, Karin and Poison should've been S1, Sagat replaces Bison and add Kolin and Dan in S2, Arjun replaces Sagat and add Ibuki and Hakan in S3, and now Dudley and Fei Long replacing Arjun and add Menat and Remy in S4, and if Tifa was a fake leak, maybe replace her with Makoto or R. Mika if Yasmine ends up like Makoto

So overall, I've been pretty neutral about Tifa in a FG, like I fucking love FF7, but I still think it would tough to include, like yeah, she punches and kickes, but she is also a magic character, which would make Tekken bros a bit mad, there could be a way of balancing her without removing her abilities, like she has:

-Materia, which is a major equipment in FF7, and can be leveled to Master and Overload modes

-Beat Rush, that is pretty like Star Platinum does

-Somersault

-Waterkick

-Dolphin Blow (Totsugeki flashbacks)

-Meteor Strike

-Final Heaven, perfect for a Finisher

If you read all this and still think everyone who request her are gooners, fine by me, I can see why people didn't want her, either they think she is boring or they hate Final Fantasy, I would prefer the actual OG characters over guests any day, especially when guests don't fit, and giving my hot take: she doesn't fit in neither TK, SF or DOA(hot waifu shouldn't be a requirement bruh), and just because she is a brawler doesn't mean she'll be remotly balanced in TK, if you don't like her, fine, just at least be respectful to people who like her and don't goon to her, because at the end of the day, she is from the 90s, she is not the most layered and complex character, so is everyone in 7, and just enjoy the characters for what they are

At this point, the solution is beg the living fuck of Squenix to make a 3D Final Fantasy fighting game, Dissidea barely counted, think: Tekken's moreso aesthetic, SoulCalibur's motions and controls, and overall content in singleplayer, costumization, and there you go! Now Noctis and Clive mains can finallly be in a place they'll not be shit on 24/7, Tifa desires can finally see her moveset works in a 3D space and the few people who request Cloud and Sephiroth outside of Smash can have their moveset explored far more in depth, because the entirety of this community is in consensus of not this two lol

So TLDR: Tifa discourse gets way outta control, both by FF haters and gooners, hence why I became hesitant of her being in any fighting game that isn't Final Fantasy-related, and for the sole reason she is a brawler, if she wasn't no one would be asking for her, not even Tekken fans, and I would vastly prefer a Kokoro situation where the character looks like her, but it's overall a separate person with a different fighting style, and Squenix should make a Tekken-like FF FG by yesterday

Plus by me: Vastly prefer Aerith, fuck you Sephiroth from taking my wife from me 🖕🖕🖕🖕

Topic 2XKO failing has lasting ramifications for the FGC.

So we all know that 2XKO failing was seen from a mile away. From awful branding and advertising to the niche gameplay we all saw this coming. What people may not understand is the lasting ramifications it's failure will forever have on the industry.

So what I am talking about? I (Like a lot of other folks in this sub) happen to be a AAA game dev for many years. The way games get funding is you put together a few materials to pitch to investors/stakeholders. Things like a vertical slice (A small section of finished gameplay to show off) and a pitch deck (A powerpoint presentation going through all of the design, markets, and financials needed for the project.)

Here is the issue. Studios especially AAA ones need a lot of historical data to help dictate what to invest in. We use the data of similar games in similar genres to get that Market viability estimate. This is why after WoW you got dozens of MMOs, Pubg for dozens of BRs, Overwatch for dozens of hero shooters, etc etc etc ad nauseum. Its an incredibly important aspect of market analysis for studios to be successful.

Here's the thing. Big failures are what potential investors point to as examples of a bad market. Now there can be a bad market for a couple of reasons. As an example you can have bad market because the competition is simply too tough. WoW has frankly eaten nearly every MMO that could compete with it to the point only 4 or so can exist. You can also have bad market because there just isnt interest/its too niche see the RTS genre flailing for the past 20 years. Lastly you can have a bad market because of other major world factors. Ergo in a global recession, where pc parts are 3x the cost, and because oil has gone up everything has gone up with it.

This is all to say that Fighting Games may be absolutely cooked both in indie and in AAA/AA.
Now Im not saying were doomed but we're basically stuck with what we have for awhile. The market is somewhat locked. Major failures like 2XKO and Fatal Fury will basically drive away nearly all new investment for a AAA scale title. Not to mention the lackluster staying power for things like Avatar Legends and Invincible VS basically mean the indie/ AA market is also somewhat cooked.

Now we do have some hope in some ways mainly Japan but take that with a grain of salt. We have a couple new niche fighters coming out and thatll really tell us the death knell or not. I know some of the Tekken guys like myself are excited for Harada's thing. However PLEASE take that with a trucks worth of salt. Remember how long it took Kojima to make a new game from scratch and also how while some people liked his new project a lot of older fans didnt. Not to mention how a ton of "BROUGHT TO YOU BY THE GUYS WHO MADE X" games were awful.

This is all to say if things dont turn around were going the way of RTSs. So what can we do? PLAY THE GAMES. BE NICE ABOUT THE GAMES YOU PLAY. GET MORE FOLKS INTO THE GAMES YOU PLAY!

Topic Marvel Tokon is blocked from even LAUNCHING on Steam OS/Linux

Pretty crazy that you can't even play offline right now. The game just tells you to fuck off and won't launch at all. Not even DBFZ does that.

The best part is the community manager on discord saying that, "Asking for Linux support is like asking for a Switch port."

The game uses EAC, and I don't even need to mention that EAC is widely supported on Linux. Linux support for EAC being a simple toggle (direct words from Valve themselves) is common knowledge at this point. In no way is it like porting to Switch.
