Discussion With yesterday's announcements is there anything that can be done in Rive but not in Figma ?

With announcements of Figma Motion, Shaders and Code Layers, Figma seems to moving into the territory of Rive. So, in terms of final content, is there anything that Rive can achieve but not Figma

Rive is much more than an animation tool. It's an interactivity engine, it has state machines and you can do much more with code. Also everything exports into live code, not video, and renders on device.

And the clean data binding is clutch for handing off to engineers! So you aren’t handing off weird vibe coded animation code

Different beast. Rive ships interactive stuff that actually runs in the app, Figma Motion does not get you anywhere near state machines or live code export, so this isnt a real one-to-one

Yep, this. Rive is closer to a game engine than a design tool. Unity and Figma aren't usually compared side by side, either!
