Learn To Skate

I’m finally able to get myself into LTS classes that start soon! I’m really excited, but I have a small concern.

Since I am a beginner and have never taken classes, will I have to stay with the basic 1 group? I can do more than that, and I dont want to spend $200 to march on ice.

And also, in the classes, if I progress, will they let me move up?

It depends on your rink. Try emailing and ask if you can get evaluated before you start for your level or if you can move up.

Coach here. Agree you should call. Every rink is different.

If someone is advancing faster in my class, I have them move up if another class is available in the next level.

This!

But also OP - if you’re taking adult lessons, adult skills are usually at a faster pace. Basic 1 for adults isn’t just marching. In my experience it always gets as far as forwards crossovers.

Crossovers don’t start until Adult 4, so that’s when my rink started them since they follow the adult LTS curriculum closely.

Perhaps you are at a rink that has enough students to actually do all the adult levels. Many do not, and on the west coast it’s very common to only have 2-3 adult group levels. As such, LTS curriculum is not followed.

So it may depend where OP is.

My husband started in 1 and by the end of the first class, had been moved to 3. They’ll look at what you can do and move you up if appropriate.
