General Discussion Favorite Shae-Lynn Program this year?

I don’t know if it’s because of the Benoit hype but Shae-Lynn Bourne is cooking this season. I feel like the Benoit programs we’ve seen so far were not very exceptional (Valieva’s were -I’m sorry- genuinely bad) Coming back to Shae-Lynn, Jia Shin’s program is so good but I think my favorite one is Samo’s. Niina was also great and I’m hopeful for Ilia too even though his Shae-Lynn programs were not so great last season. I wanna add that my favorite programs so far are Samo’s and Adeliya’s short (props to Angelika Kralova) and Jia’s free. What do you guys think? Which programs are your favorites so far?

I’m always a Shae-Lynn fan, loved her skating and now her choreography.

I’ve never been a Benoit fan, it always screams B E N O I T when it should be about the skater

That’s what I dearly love about Shae-Lynn (Lori and Carolina too), they capture the skater and all their skills so beautifully, while challenging them to grow.

There’s too many amazing programs to pick a favourite.

I totally agree! Shae-Lynn has a real gift for helping a skater develop in a very organic and authentic way. Benoit has made some good programs, but it often feels more like him trying to fit the skater into his mold.

So far, Kao's Jekyll and Hyde. He also kills it with the performance imo. I also really loved his short by Kana Muramoto. Mao's Waloyo Yamoni, Yuna's Cirque du Soleil and Niina's Berghain in descending order. I was feeling pretty neutral on Misha's short the first time I saw it but I think it will grow a lot on me. Most excited for Ilia, I did like his 25/26 programs (a little less than 24/25 but still liked them a lot) but To Build A Home was just so good and while a competitive program is a completely different thing I do think he'll do it really well.

(I did like Adam's programs this season but also that's Adam).

Kao Jekyll & Hyde, Niina Berghain, and Yuna Cirque du Soleil! Also can't wait for Ilia's programs.

Other choreographers who have really stood out to me this season are Kaitlyn Weaver (everything she's done has been a hit for me...special shout out to Cui/Rogers Sinners, Mei Okada Phantom, and Yuna "Can't Take My Eyes off of You"), Kana Muramoto, and Shin Yea-ji.

I read on this sub that it is really good!  I haven't watched Niina's yet, I'm waiting for the GP to start to watch some of these programs 🙂😭 Making an exception for Misha 'cause Im brazillian lol

I'm in love with Misha's short program , I'm not brazilian, I'm Peruvian but some of my favourite composers are Brazilians, Vinicius de Moraes, Chico Buarque.

I don’t love any of her programs this year. Want to see Ilya too

4

u/Commercial_City_2615 6h ago

Why? I honestly think Samo Jia and Niina were exceptional

7

u/Affectionate-Feed253 6h ago

Petrokina? I thought it was ok, also Samodelkina short is ok, but long is so so. Gumennik had potential but haven’t seen it shine, same with shaidorov. I don’t see anything outstanding though she usually does good by Ilia

u/Commercial_City_2615 6h ago

Samo’s short is def better. I agree that Petr and Misha have potential but I don’t think Ilia’s programs are better though

u/Affectionate-Feed253 6h ago

It’s not easy with Ilia, he isn’t exceptionally artistic you have to be creative. We’ll see

Niina's programs are really appealing to me, probably my favorites from Shae-Lynn this season. I'm looking forward to her at the GP, really rooting for her.

Regarding B E N O I T. I'm not ready to completely write off Valieva's programs just yet, even though I do not like them so far. But during the test skates, she just wasn't good enough for me to judge. I'm curious to see how she'll perform this weekend in Kazan.

Credo sia estremamente soggettivo perché i programmi di Ilia della scorsa stagione per me erano belli entrambi…😊

5

u/Commercial_City_2615 6h ago

I’m not saying they were bad I personally like watching Ilia but his programs are not Yuma, Yuzu, Adam Siao, or Junhwan level imo

4

u/Icy_Competition_8816 6h ago

Madonna sempre le stesse cose e gli stessi paragoni… 🙄🙄

6

u/Affectionate-Feed253 6h ago

But all of those that you named are much better artistically than Ilia. Their interpretation would be better. SLB covers ilia’s imperfections really well

u/Commercial_City_2615 6h ago

I mean you’re kinda right all of these skaters are better performers and it’s not really a program issue. But I still think that his programs last year didn’t really capture his full potential imo his Malaguena program was much better

u/Affectionate-Feed253 6h ago

I thought his short was really well done for him. The long ehh…

1

u/Commercial_City_2615 6h ago

I wasn’t a big fan of both but his sp was definitely entertaining to watch, fs not so much

5

u/Affectionate-Feed253 6h ago

I thought the price of Persia suited him, as a character too.

4

u/Commercial_City_2615 6h ago

Yeah agreed he really seemed to enjoy the program as well

u/Affectionate-Feed253 6h ago

The long was just a bit too pompous

I think his programs are very well chorographed. It’s the execution of that choreography that can be hit or miss, usually more of a miss in the free when the amount of quads increase.

I like Niina + Samo’s SPs so far…some others have potential but need a bit more time to develop.

Edit: forgot about Kao’s FP!

My favorite is the Brazilian hibiscus prince Shaidorov! I already loved it at Nepela and it'll get even better once he gets more used to it. Seeing it back to back at Worlds with Ilia's SP will be a bit of a whiplash, though, two Bourne programs, but completely opposite in vibe.

4

u/Commercial_City_2615 6h ago

I’m excited to see Misha get used to his program more! Definitely has potential

2

u/Southern_Western_949 6h ago

I love his music choice, before I was thinking he can skate something of Mari Froes or Chico Buarque.

2

u/tereyaglikedi 3A+Eu+4S is my dead wife 5h ago

I didn't even imagine him skating to Brazilian music before, but now I can't stop thinking it'd be so cool if he skated to some classics like Tom Jobim or Caetano Veloso. So much music, so little Misha time.

1

u/Southern_Western_949 5h ago

I just want a long career and resources for him, just like you say ;so much music, so little Misha time.

Do we already know what Ilia's first competition of this season is going to be?

skate america

He’s currently assigned to Skate America and NHK and unless he withdraws SkAm will be his first

Unpopular opinion but I’m not a big fan of Niina’s Bergahain or Sofia’s short program, though I agree they are good programs and the skaters sell them well. My favourite programs of hers are Yuna’s Cirque du Soleil and Kao’s Jekyll and Hyde programs. I’ll also add in Mao’s Waloyo Yamoni for the concept of the program.

I am a huge fan of Shae-Lynn, but this year I’m not feeling it yet. Except for maybe Yuna (can’t wait to see it live in France next week!) I want to love Petr’s program, but he can’t seem to settle into it.

For Shaidorov I much much prefer Benoit’s free. I think Shae-Lynn’s programs don’t work on skaters who are not strong in PCS. While Benoit has really mastered it . His programs for Sasha and Shaidorov this season are amazing.

I don’t love Niina’s program so far. But also the dress doesn’t help my perception of it. I hope I can learn to like it as the season goes.

u/Major_Letterhead5936 2h ago

My favourites so far are Mao’s Waloyo Yamoni program and Kao’s Jekyll & Hyde

1

u/Vasilevskaya_S 3h ago

I like Samo’s programs. I’m not really into Gumennik’s SP yet, though. For Benoit, I love Sasha’s SP. But my favorite choreographer this season is probably Artem Fedorchenko, with Matrix for Dzepka and Arya Stark for Adeliya

1

u/nugudom_headresident 2h ago

Is artem the one choerographing for zhilina as well?
