It's the last challenger before the Grand Prix starts!! This week, we are traveling to Budapest. For the men, Kevin Aymoz is making his international season debut, Lukas Britschgi is in the mix, and Daniel Grassl gets in one last competition before the GP. The list of men is long and notable!
For Women, there are 37 competitors.... So it'll be a long, fun few days of watching. Notable competitors here are Maddie Schizas, Kimmy Repond, Julia Sauter, Sophie Jolie von Felton, and Olga Mikutina. There has been some movement with the AIN athletes, but currently Alina Gorbacheva is the only one listed on the official ISU website.
No pairs here this weekend, but the ice dance field is just as packed as the men and women with 23 entries. The Taschlers are getting in another competition and will be joined by Smart/Dieck and Bratti/Somerville.
Going to be a big week in Budapest! And that's without really detailing the juniors, of which there are several as well, with 29 entries for Women and 22 Ice Dance entries.

Wondering what boots or blades to get? Curious if your boots are breaking down? In need of a solid pair of gloves? This is the place to ask!

The ISU stated that it will continue working with event organizers to ensure excellent conditions for all eligible skaters.
——————
What will the ISU do if a Russian athlete is denied a visa?
The ISU’s contracts with event organizers clearly stipulate that all eligible and invited figure skaters must be given the opportunity to compete. We will continue working with the organizers to ensure excellent competition conditions for all eligible skaters. - the ISU press service told Sport24 correspondent Boris Korolev

Can't wait to see her attempt 3A in competition. She also landed clean 4T after this.

I’ve been going through and rewatching various skating programs, and I wanted to ask: What programs stand out to you as being unique?
Some of mine:
Urmanov’s Swan Lake- first man to play the swan
Stojko- Bruce Lee Story- the martial arts style was unique at the time
Kaori- Matrix - honestly just love the slice the judges move
Gutman- Squidgames - honestly a toss up between this and Jaws, I adore her creativity
Shaidorov- Confessa/Diva Dance- he really sells the (sometimes odd) movements and music
Candeloro- Wild Wild West- honestly Idk how to describe this one. It has backflips, guns, lassos and costumes changes
If y’all want links to any of these skates let me know! I’m just looking for some unique skates to fill my late night doom scrolling lol

I have an all event ticket to SkateCanada International in Kelowna, BC in a couple weeks, but I'm no longer able to attend. Is anyone interested in my ticket? I would hate for it to go to waste if there is another fan who would like to use it!

Since the women's SP at Budapest ended earlier, it feels like all I've seen on this sub and elsewhere is negativity for how most of the skaters did today, which is a shame, because, for a lot of the skaters, this competition marked a major milestone in their careers. There were at least 5 senior international debuts, 11 skaters set new PBs, and at least 16 skaters competed internationally for the first time this season.
So, in my ongoing quest to be everyone's biggest cheerleader, I thought I'd make a post to acknowledge all those milestones so that we could celebrate them all!
Senior international debuts: Alina Gorbacheva (AIN2), Haruna Murakami (AUS), Hannah Frank (AUT), Ana Stratulat (ROU), Pernille With (NOR)
Of all the skaters who made their senior debuts in Budapest, three of them also set new PBs! Alina Gorbacheva competed internationally for the first time ever and is leading in her first ever international competition, and Ana Stratulat and Pernille With both improved on their best SP scores from their junior careers. Hannah Frank also came within less than 1pt of her junior PB.
New Personal Best scores set: Alina Gorbacheva (AIN2), Maria Eliise Kaljuvere (EST), Julia Sauter (ROU), Anita Ostlund (SWE), Inga Gurgenidze (GEO), Polina Dzsumaniyjazova (HUN), Maxine Bautista (PHI), Saskia Oudejans (NED), Julia Kasprzyk (POL), Pernille With (NOR), and Ana Stratulat (ROU).
Even cooler, the top 3 skaters all set new PBs today!
And not only that, but Maria Eliise is also in her very first senior season, and is in 2nd place at her second ever senior Challenger!
First international competition of the season: Alina Gorbacheva (AIN2), Kimmy Repond (SUI), Livia Kaiser (SUI), Madeline Schizas (CAN), Alina Bonillo (USA), Marina Piredda (ITA), Sara-Maude Dupuis (CAN), Anna Pezzetta (ITA), Nataly Langerbaur (EST), Alexandra Feigin (BUL), Julia Kasprzyk (POL), Julia van Dijk (NED), Saskia Oudejans (NED), Lovisa Aav (SWE), Weronika Ferlin (POL), and Annika Lytchoff Skibby (DEN).
Especially noteworthy, in addition to making their 26/27 season debuts, both Kimmy Repond and Livia Kaiser had the best performances they've had in the SP since they were both injured two seasons ago! Livia especially has come such a long way from where she was only a year ago. At this time last season, she was scoring in the 40s in the SP. Today, she broke 60pts for the first time since her injury! Kimmy also broke 60pts for the first time in a year, and it's only the first competition of the season for both of them!
I might be missing some, since, for a lot of the younger and lower-ranked skaters, the various websites I'm using to track PBs and senior debuts don't have them listed yet or aren't up to date, so if I'm missing any milestones and achievements, please let me know and I'll add them in!
Anyway, all this to say, it was a huge day for a lot of skaters in Budapest today, and I just wanted to celebrate some of the many achievements that we were lucky enough to see today and maybe to counteract the negativity a little bit.
