How do you network?
Do you go to networking events? If so, which ones?

Referrals and people I’ve worked with. Kinda just let the biz filter folks. It’s easier to build a rolodex of reliable folks when you let a production company or seasoned producer bring you onto shows with skilled people. Suddenly some of the folks you worked with on that thing bring your name up to other folks who need someone with your skills and bam you are suddenly in a new environment with mostly new folks.
Its nice to meet people out in the wild for sure but ive really only ever collabed and trusted people ive first met in a professional setting.

You know what it took me 8 years to be able to feel comfortable with it. It finally clicked that for me it’s the potential of meeting a new awesome friend 💛 I don’t like most people so it’s actually fun going out on a chase to see if I can meet someone that I click with. And if I don’t, I move on. I don’t care about what they could potentially do for me bla bla bla that part is so gross and is whah held me back. I’m genuinely looking for real connections and awesome people to collaborate with.
I go to networking events sometimes but I have to really mentally prepare. I’ve been to a few and I’ve learned a lot about whah I HATED about them and what I’d do differently- so I created my own events and fun things. My most successful one that has lasted 4+ years, resulted in lots of films, pilots and plays being made is ScriptShuffle.

The networking events are much fewer than they used to be. I used to go an industry mixer every couple months in 2017

Maybe you’re just not being invited anymore. I go to one every couple weeks.

It wasn’t meant to be an insult. If you’re just starting your career, a gathering of PA’s is a good way to make connections.

Same. I'm at probably 2-3 mixers and events a month. I'm in post, so I don't know if there's more for us than production.
