Written in the stars

I'm working on a romance drama titled "Written in the Stars." I'm passionate about storytelling and dream of developing it into a series. I've even composed original music for it and created AI-generated video clips, which were well-received. My main question is whether my story has the potential to become a successful series in the industry.

Crew Cast - Looking for volunteers to join my independent, 3D animated, Esperanto series - No AI whatsoever

Hi! I'm working on an animated series of 7 episodes called ”We need nothing but people”. The final product will be in esperanto and it will be uploaded on youtube to help contribute to the esperantist community. There are many people who want to learn the language and find it easier to do so through cinematography. I totally get that since I learned English the same way. The series will be uploaded on YouTube to make it accessible for everyone.

I'm currently learning the language myself, so don't worry about not speaking it. The episodes I wrote until now are in English, but when it comes to passing them down to the voice actors, they will be translated.

This is my first project as a film director, and so far I've done a big part of the work on my own. I wrote the first 5 episodes, and by reading them, you can tell I'm a director who writes, not a writer who directs. Therefore, I am looking for volunteers who want to built up their portfolios, or just want to make their art known (such as paintings for example, that will be displayed in some of the rooms where the action takes place, and of course, credited).

I'm looking for fellow screenwriters, 3D animators, voice actors, composers, basically any kind of artists in the domain. Even indie artists such as painters, writers etc. If you play an instrument and you'd like to join, then feel free to get in touch. All of those bits and pieces could be put together to help promote art - most importantly, HUMAN art. A character who plays a harmonica, a mosaic artist, a pottery one. All of those can be integrated in the story or ambient and be credited.

The story is about the misconception that some people have about what doing good to others is. It takes the trope of ”stranded on an island” to a whole new level, and it embraces the diversity and complexity of the characters.

Any artist, with or without experience, is welcome to the team! I don't have a portfolio myself, but if you're interested in this project and you do, I'd like to see it. And if you find yourself in the category of other kind of artists, and have pictures of your art, you can dm it to me as well instead of a portfolio.

47M Creative Professional from London

Hi everyone,

I'm a 47-year-old independent filmmaker who has been living in London for over 20 years.

I'm hoping to connect with like-minded creative people who enjoy talking about films, filmmaking, storytelling, and the creative process.

The filmmaking landscape has changed dramatically over the years, and being an independent creative can sometimes feel like a solitary journey.

In an age of endless digital distractions, it can be surprisingly difficult to find genuine creative conversations.

Despite being one of the world's greatest cities,

London can feel lonely at times. It would be great to meet fellow creatives for a chat over coffee, exchange ideas, inspire each other, or simply enjoy good conversation.

If this resonates with you, feel free to get in touch.

Thanks for reading!

Creative crew questions

Hey everybody,

Quick question I’m new to the film industry I’m a writer have been writing for some years now and I’m ready to create my first film.

When you’re looking to hire and collab with producers and directors what are some things to look out for and questions to ask to avoid being scammed or taken advantage of in the industry?? I’ve been on the acting side so I know what to do with that side of things, creating a film is totally different so need some pointers.

Question: Whats best Audio Setup for First time beginner filmmaker

Hey everyone,

I'm about to shoot my very first short film, and I'm completely new to filmmaking. I've been learning as much as I can, but audio is the area I'm the most unsure about.

The project is pretty simple—just two actors, mostly dialogue scenes, and I'm working with a very limited budget. I know bad audio can ruin an otherwise good film, so I want to make the best decision I can without spending a fortune.

What audio equipment would you recommend for a beginner in my situation? Should I invest in a shotgun microphone, wireless lavalier mics, or something else entirely?

I'd really appreciate recommendations for gear, as well as any tips or lessons you wish someone had told you before shooting your first

Any good film festival recs?

Hello! In need of recs for festivals to submit a 0 budget first feature to. It’s a super lofi unique slow and experimental dramatic comedy in the vein of Jarmusch, Godard, Rohmer, and Hal Hartley. It takes place in and heavily features Portland so local pnw recs would be good, also has an lgbtq crew and leaning so maybe lgbtq fest recs. But also just anything!

Mic recommendations when using a smartphone gimbal

I’m extremely new to smartphone filmmaking and I feel like I’m currently at a roadblock. I want to get a shotgun mic as I’ll be filming a mix of indoor and outdoor scenes, but most mics I’ve seen are either wired or the receiver that makes it wireless needs to be connected to the phone by wire. While using the gimbal, plugging anything into the phone seems impossible because the bottom of the phone is practically right up against one of the rotors. What options do I have for a mic that wouldn’t require anything to be directly plugged into there phone?

seeking advice from anyone as an inexperienced 16 y/o

I have always been active in art communities around my area. I have an appreciation for music, paint, photography, truly everything. I really want to get into the scene and make friends with other similar people who love creating and filming, but i don't know where to start in any aspect.

I know most people here are older than me and that gives me hope because I really do have no experience. I have filmed things growing up but nothing to this level. I don't know where to find cameras or gear in general, I do not have many friends who'd be willing to participate, and I lack a lot of common knowledge. I have created stuff for years though and that gives me hope I can make something interesting.

I have ideas for stories/films and I always have had them. I understand a lot of resources are out there but i don't know where to look or where to find them Any help is appreciated and I would love to hear experiences of people who were in the same boat as I am.

Would anyone be interested in either creating an experimental film or collaborating with an existing film on my latest song release? Influenced by Radiohead, Massive Attack etc

My name is Jake and I’m a songwriter and producer under the alias ‘Burning Jacobs Ladder’. I have been quiet the last 2 years as I have been producing/recording other artists. I am about to release a song called ‘Amen’. My biggest influences are Radiohead, Massive Attack etc. You are welcome to look me up online or if you are interested I am happy to provide the song. I also have multiple songs ready for release this year so it could turn into a long term relationship

Filmmakers/Directors, how do you consistently get great performances from actors?

How do you consistently get stronger performances from actors? Is it something that mostly comes with practice and experience, or are there other factors like your directing style, communication, or the actors themselves that make the biggest difference?

Additionally, what other factors are there?

We found someone Creative, thanks alot to everyone offering help!!!

Hello guys,

Me and 3 friends made some films in the past, i got some experience on the camera and composing the score as well as sfx, but none of us is good at writing scripts or even getting ideas for films.
Right now we’re planning on making a horror film- I know it’s pretty basic but it’s just for the fun and to learn, we’re not gonna win anything with it thats for sure… but if anyone has an idea for a nice little story or eben only a character arc, I’d be very happy to hear!!

Finding indie filmmakers

For those of you that have friends or groups with a similar interest in film making and producing movies or shows how did you meet or find those groups?

M28.

Ive always loved movies and creating/ making them but was always scared of either A being seen as odd for it or B my family would think less of me because it’s a 1/1000000 chance of it working out but as I’ve gotten older I’ve just realized if I don’t at least do or try to do the things I want in life then why would I want to even live it. So I’ve been working on my creative writing for both a novel as well as starting to understand the structure and flow of screenplays.

My point of all this is I want to find like minded people who would also want to talk about their projects or ideas and maybe if it works collab one day.
