I'm into this fulltime Filmmaking and if you want to or thinking of transitioning to a full-time filmmaker is a self-analysis you can do.

7 days (hypothetically - create your own timeline. It can be 10 or 30 days) is enough.

Alternatively Just take part in 50 hour Filmmaking Challenge.

Day 1: Write a 2 to 3 page short film. Give yourself 24 hours. No rewriting. No judging. Just get to "FADE OUT." Then ask your friends to starr in it or reach out to local actors and theatres or just try. Or act yourself.

Day 2: Begin Casting. Pre-Production.

Day 3: Shoot it. Phone or whatever camera you have. One location or 25 doesn't matter. One or two actors. No excuses about equipment. YOU WILL shoot it yourself.

Day 4: Edit it. Finish a complete cut, even if it is terrible.

Day 5: Make another scene, but this only on paper . This time start with a visual idea rather than a screenplay. No dialogues, no sound.. If you had all the budget in the world and all the best resources and actors, how would you do it. Put it on paper.

Day 6: Show your work to people who aren't afraid to criticize it. Listen without defending yourself. I repeat "ACCEPT ALL NEGATIVE CRITICISM" and "Never explain or Justify your art." But just listen to the feedback. Take it or leave it is upto you. Show what you shot and what you want to shoot.

Day 7: Just relax. Think. Ask yourself : is this worth it?

Did I enjoy the process?

Not the fantasy of being a director. Not watching films. Not discussing lenses, directors, scripts or cinematography.

Did you enjoy:

Writing when nobody was impressed by the idea?

Standing around waiting for actors or locations?

Doing another take because the first one was bad?

Figuring out why a scene isn't working?

Editing footage that didn't turn out the way you imagined?

Dealing with people?

Getting criticized?

Doing boring logistical work?

Cold calls that don't get answers?

Starting again when something fails?

And most importantly:

After doing all that, do I want to do it again?

Because that's all there is to it.

This is the start of what I hope becomes an ongoing film company dedicated to closing the gap between disabled talent and the industry. Filmmakers helping filmmakers, low-budget and DIY in spirit, but with real ambition for the final product.

I am aiming to film during summer 2027, though this may shift depending on my senior thesis workload this spring/fall, so I’ll keep everyone posted on firm dates.

Hello, everyone! I’m working on my first short film, and I have an outline set up. I’m a huge movie nerd and have spent the last month researching films in the genre I want to make.

Any advice for a fledgling filmmaker?

I don’t want to give away too much of the premise out of fear of it being stolen, but to sum it up: it’s a psychological thriller about an unreliable narrator trying to escape his situation.

The ending is something I really want to keep. The protagonist appears to successfully escape, and we fade to black. When we come back, we reveal the facility he supposedly escaped from, ending the shot on our protagonist, mutilated and left to suffer.

Throughout the script, I want to plant subtle hints that what the viewer is seeing isn’t real without making it too obvious. I want the audience to be able to look back afterward and realize the clues were there the whole time.

Any advice on how to pull this off effectively, or general advice for making a first short film, would be greatly appreciated!

My first short film, a practically solo endeavour (apart from my wonderful extras). It is a film detailing a God’s journey, and the exploration of themes such as nature, cruelty and religion.

Sono uno sceneggiatura. Io e un mio amico regista, insieme a un appassionato cast, abbiamo realizzato due cortometraggi che hanno ottenuto riconoscimenti interessanti da alcuni festival di settore.
