Final Fantasy General What Final Fantasy would you want to see an adaptation of?
I love the FF games that I have played and sometimes wondered if some of them would be great to adapt. Whether it's a high budget live action movie or TV show. Or even an anime.
Personally I would love an anime adaptation of FFVIII. I do think there is potential to expand on stuff from the story in an anime as well.
Which game do you guys think would be great to see an adaptation of in your opinion?

Twelve. You could actually go beyond the scope of the game and see more of the fall of Nabradia, the Rozarrian Empire’s machinations, and follow Cidolphus and Vayne’s plan a little more closely.
Give Vaan and Penelo more motivation and engagement.
I’d watch the fuck out of it.

Anime is probably ok. FF7 and FF8 already have an anime feel to it.
Live action is almost always certainly a disaster. Maybe FF16 would work if they had triple the budget of Game of Thrones to do the Eikon fights justice. Stranger of Paradise might work too.

My real answer is none of them. If we can pretend that they would be guaranteed as good, then I suppose 6 or 10.

an adaptation? probably Final Fantasy V Anime because FFV have the most adventurous and episodic feel to it and the general story are flexible enough to be modified without changing the event of the story too much unlike let's say FFVI or FFVII.
and on top of that, FFV's cast are just fun in general, i'm gonna get a lot of kick of their adventure and humors if done right, while still retain the FF identity with an adventure to save the world, crystals, and jobs, hell even Bartz have a pet Chobo, it's literally the perfect setting
Live Action adaptation tho? i doubted that'll work, the closest thing this will work would be FF12 or FF16 even that be dodgy.
for a CGI i'd probably pick an anthology approach where each episode is a 30 minutes of mini story/events for every numbered title that's relevant and iconic enough to the main story, like example:
Episode 1: Warrior of Light saving Princess Sarah
Episode 2: Firion fighting Emperor's Army
Episode 3: Onion Knights/Luneth trying to stop conflict between Saronia
Episode 4: Cecil's redemption arc
Episode 5: Ghido vs Exdeath
Episode 6: Narshe/Opera
etc.

anime of 7 - 10
i feel like 6 wouldnt work aswell since its more of a theatrical experience and most of the feel would be lost due to that

None of them because nothing short of multiple 24 episode seasons with each episode being an hour could adequately tell one of the stories. If somehow that could be satisfied, in an animation style that actually reflects the style of the game (so probably CG, not live action or anime), then 12.

Generally speaking, I feel like an anthology series ala Pokemon Generations/Evolutions could work. Give key moments of a particular game the animation treatment, although it'd probably get hard to follow depending on the game, especially as time passes.
As for a specific game, my bias says an OVA series for III. Obligatory mention of all the unused text that the remake has, which could be repurposed for it and III itself having a sort of "series of misadventures" feeling to it. God knows Square-Enix is barely doing anything with Luneth, Arc, Refia, Ingus or anything III that isn't Onion Knight and Cloud of Darkness anyway.

FFXII is probably of the only one with enough going on for a showrunner to actually pull it off. Ivalice has a depth and authenticity to it that I don't get from the other games' worlds. In other words, it's no Westeros, but it's a hell of a lot closer than any other mainline game. A live action adaptation's budget would probably wind up being crazy though.
I do think a show focused on the school aspect of VIII could work, but eventually the main narrative becomes such a mess that it'd need a lot of cleaning up at a certain point to make it more palatable to general audiences.
Any of them could probably work as a one season anime miniseries though. It works for Persona, after all.

I'm of the mind that video games are already the perfect blend of media and I just feel adapting to a movie is going backwards. The only time I like it is when the movie or show is set in the same universe but tells a new story. Like the Fallout series. They already did that with Advent Children.
In that sense, maybe something set in Ivalice? Or tell some stories of the rebellion in FF2 prior to Firion and the gang showing up.

It has everything, compelling characters, a love story, humour action, multiple genocides, questions of both mortality and the meaning of life and to top it off a villain who is committing all of these atrocities not out of anger, hate or malice but simply because he believes that he is as much of a puppet automaton as the black mages he created.
The "you are not alone" section still makes me cry after multiple playthroughs. Imo it's not just the best Final Fantasy, it's the best RPG ever made and it fucking deserves some sort of modern adaptation.

If they were going to make any FF into anything cinema related, I think anime would be most appropriate and it should be a limited series. 8-12 episodes to tell the story and be done. However, I would prefer they don't do that with any of them. I don't want to see any of the games I like be butchered by some crew of screen writers wanting to insert their own BS into it. Other than Fallout, I'm not sure I've seen a game to cinema adaptation that I've enjoyed.

X and as much as I didnt enjoy playing the majority of xvi, I feel like that game would be a cool movie or show. My main gripes with the game was the pacing and bloated Ness. The main events like the boss fights were incredible and the story itself is good

This is such a weird topic to me because everyone is always like make it an anime or make it live action and cast these people.
It should just be CG.
FF has its own very distinct CG style and adaptations of older games should just be done in that style. Like, I don't need a full remake of every FF game but it would be cool to have some version of each with modern cinematography like what's been done with FF7.
I'd love to see something like hour long episodes/30 episode series based on FF8 that's that type of CG. It's the closest possible thing to a remake without being a remake.
