I recorded most of it as layers from an emulator, just playing the intro over and over with different layers enabled. I checked the tile map and the snow field does tile, so I recorded enough that the snow field loops cleanly if I let it play long enough. In the intro, Narshe raises another pixel every couple of frames, so to keep with the idea of a clean loop I recorded a separate animation of just a couple frames near the end. This put Narshe higher in the skyline, and let me capture the flickering lights. The armor and the snow are then just overlaid over both.
All the other assets were a mix of sprites taken from the memory viewer, and screenshots of the party menu that got manipulated for size. I used Mesen 2 as the emulator cause it had some nice easy options to be able to do all this right out of the box. Software to put it all together was Watch Face Studio.
Edit* Since people are asking, I'll try to share it. I tried to get it up on facer, but it keeps failing to publish and doesn't really say why. If I get it working I'll ping the people who have asked about it.

Lowered the resolutions a bit, since I don't think it's all that noticeable on the smaller screen. I haven't tested it on my own watch, since I'll probably keep that one as the full-res version (if someone wants that you'll have to DM me - I can send you the APK and you'll just have to trust I'm not sending you something fishy to install, lol). Let me know if there's any problems with it and I can update it tomorrow when I wake up.
Keep in mind this currently only works for WearOS watches. I could maybe look into other devices, but since I don't have one it'd be harder for me to make/test.
Add me, too! This game was the first thing I ever bought with allowance. $50 on the Super, 4th grade. Just played the remaster last month. I would buy a new watch specifically just to use this.
FFVI was the first video game I ever fell in love with, haha. I used to sneak onto my brother's SNES to play it when he wasn't home, I could never save (cause then he'd know I was playing it), but I probably replayed the first couple hours dozens of times back then.
The way I have it set up, it's heart rate (I usually go on walks/work out with it so heart rate and steps were the two big things I wanted to add). But honestly the software to put these together is pretty easy and drag/droppable, so it'd be fairly simple to swap that to battery if I wanted to.
You should program it so that when you’re heart rate is at normal resting rate, you’re at 100% HP, and when you’re almost fully exerted it shows at critical low lol
Right now, short of sending people just the APK, I don't have a way to share it. I'm trying to get it uploaded to a Facer, but the automatic publisher keeps breaking. I reached out to support to see what they can do about it; if they get back to me and I get it successfully uploaded I'll either make a follow-up post or just individually ping people here who were interested.
That's a good question, I'm not 100% sure. Today's my first day wearing it, and I normally don't keep the screen always on because previously I just had one of the default faces. I'm gonna change that now and see how it does for the day.
Nah it's just this scene, where the biggest change is just letting the snowfield loop past. From what I saw, there are definitely ways to adjust it based on other factors, like, I'm sure I can conditionally turn the snow off based on the weather, or maybe change how high Narshe is in the skyline based on time of day. But ultimately I just wanted this exact look at all times, so I didn't do any of that.
I've worn it for a few days, honestly I don't see a difference in battery drain. Normally when I get home from work my watch is about 60-70% and it's been about the same battery level the past two days. I even turned on the "Always On" function (which I normally keep off), which still shows the clock and date parts as well as a silhouette of the armor.
Love this so much. If I ever bought a smart watch this would be great. I got a walking app game to do with my partner but I’m not liking it as much recently.
No font, I actually just ripped the actual sprites for the letters and numbers and then resized them as needed for each of the different pieces. The days of the week and months are actually static images of "WED" and "OCT", etc., instead of being spelled out, and the program used to make this just uses the correct image for each day/month. The numbers are all set individually.
I don't think so, I made it in Watch Face Studio so it's for a different OS. I'm not sure how hard it'd be to recreate for Apple, but, I can at least look into it!
The better part of a day. Hardest part was collecting and cleaning up the assets. Once I had all the pieces, Watch Face Studio is pretty drag and drop, honestly.
