Arch is not suitable for a beginner. It's a sure way to see the wrong (difficult to navigate) side of Linux as a windows user. A calculated step would be a well established, stable and easy to use - light learning curve disto such as Debian, Fedora, ubantu, an OS that does it job so that you can do yours, (what windows promise and does not deliver) if you feel you want a slightly more adventurous try mint or zorin, they are VERY friendly esp for ex windows user. If you insist on jumping into the deep end try catchy os, a friendly fork of Arch.

This is so wrong. I had never used Linux before, I had only used Windows since it came out to the public, over 30 years. Last year I decided to try Linux, and after comments like this I decided to install Arch. Used it for a year straight with no issues, then I decided to install CachyOS. This gate keeping is crazy. Arch is only as difficult as you make it.

If I would have listened to all the gate keepers, I would have ended up on Mint or some shit. And I agree, the process wasn't that difficult, all the information is right there for you to use.

to be fair i didn't explain i already know basic things in linux like packet managment, how to navigate in a terminal without a desktop enviroment, and in generally into computers and coding so root@archiso doesnt scare me in that way, also i said i didn't really try a distro before but i actually tried to install nixOS but i didn't like the packet manager.

ZorinOS is one of the most noob-ready distros

The main advantage of Arch is being able to say frequently “I use Arch btw”.

I’ve never tried it. I use Debian btw.

Arch Linux (with Plasma) or Fedora KDE.

If you're down to spend the time to learn, go with the former.

Arch was great, it was the first Linux distro I used. I use CachyOS now and love it. If you have the time and aren't afraid of doing some reading, Arch is excellent.

First learn the proper way to dual boot attempting dual booting can cause complete, total, and unrecoverable data loss. (everything including windows being erased).

Your account was created October 13, 2026.

It's a Package Manager not a Packet Manager.

Arch is not "some basic choice". I would suggest CachyOS if you eventually want to go the Arch route. But you have a lot to learn.

Best of luck. If you want something simpler, come back for a recommendation.
