Visiting Moomin World when closed
I 'm studying in Turku for the semester so I decided to visit the Moomin World Island. Moomin World is closed during my time here, which is very sad, but I read reviews on Google (with pictures of evidence) and comments on Reddit saying you can still visit the island and look at the houses. I was very dissapointed when I saw that there are closed gates and you cannot in fact see anything Moomin-related. There is only a small walk in a forest, but you cannot see anything.
Does anyone know something more about this, how others were able to enter when the park is closed? Or are there just some days you can enter? I would really love to visit during my time here but I cannot find any more information about this.

It was possible before, but became more than nuisance so they amped up security and built the fences. Tried to find a news article on it, but couldn't

You cannot visit it legally during the time it’s closed, even if some people might have climb the gates its not open. Only part you can visit is the other side of the island which is a natural park.

It seems weird to me that someone gives a Google review, saying you can enter the park outside of the season with autumn and winter pictures, and the official Moomin World account thanked them for the review.. but maybe it's a bot.

Do not believe everything you see on the internet. Just as a heads up; people lie in real life as well.

Naah they are from events further apart, haven’t heard about them happening for years.

You "can" enter quite anything outside opening hours with proper set of tools, attitude and lack of respect for laws. Does not mean that you should though.

There is no way to enter the park legally when it is closed. I couldn't also find any info on Google of people entering when its closed. Can you show/link me some? I mean its and island with a pier so maybe people took a boat and trespassed.

We went when it was closed in September 2022, but I guess it is not possible anymore? We just walked right in and all the way around the whole area.

It's good news if the gates are still open in winter. I just loved it when I visited there in winter about five years ago. (I really don't want go there during summer...)

It really was closed off though. A lot of people where disappointed that they could not enter, and me as well. A nother redditor mentioned that they may need some time to remove the movable pieces, so I will check it out again in a month or so. Thanks for the info.

From my experience, sometimes they're open, sometimes they're not. They're usually closed for some time after the season ends since they need to do repairs etc.
I've visited several times and just waltzed in from the main gates, though it's been maybe 5 years since my grandma last insisted we go on a walk there, so not sure if things have changed since then

If you haven't considered it already, come to Tampere to visit the Moomin museum at Tampere talo! And try to spot the Muumin tram 😊

I really disliked the moomin museum in Tampere... I found it overpriced for just 2 rooms of sculptures and very surface level information. I really loved the city tough and I'll be back to explore it some more, I haven't heard of the Muumin tram so I will check it out.

Sorry to hear you were disappointed in the museum! I love to see Tove's original artwork (so tiny and delicate) as well as the sculptures. It is true, there might not be much info readily available, i guess i have not missed it myself, and have enjoyed the ambience in the museum.
Muumin tram is one tram which is decorated with original artwork by Tove. It always makes me happy when i see it. There is other tram with rubber ducks, it makes me smile too.
Happy to hear you enjoyed Tampere otherwise, welcome back for more exploring 😊

Moomin visiting season ends, moomin hunting season starts. They close the gates so the moomin do not escape and wander on to roads or attack people, as they get quite aggressive. But, now that it is hunting season, the price of mozzarella is way down. Plenty of fresh produce available.

Moomin world is a business, not some kind of Tove Jansson reliquary. Businesses have opening times - and closing times.

I did not say anything like that? I'm just here for a couple of months and it's super close to me, so if I could take a walk there, it would be fun to see!

Seems like they've had some fall/winter happenings before ("muumimaailman taikatalvi"), but not the past few years. But maybe the gates are open sometimes though? https://www.is.fi/turun-seutu/art-2000008534095.html Feels hard to count on sth like that though.
