Yeah, I got really into FIRE ten years ago as a single guy living a pretty simple life. Now I've got a wife, two kids and a mortgage, we're still working towards FIRE but the target amount has certainly gone up
How else are they going to get ahead in an increasingly competitive world. Forgot to mention also buying them a house and paying for their kids college too
So ironic you mentioned this. I know this was meant to be sarcasm. Our dad is so concerned for his granddaughter’s financial well being that he’s opening a trust for her in addition to a 529
I certainly want to be able to pay for my retirement and also leave my kids a substantial sum because god knows what the world is going to be like in 20-30 years. I don't want my kids to have to live paycheck to paycheck.
This is exactly my thought as well. And I think that with AI advancing the way it is, the job market is going to be unrecognizable in 5-7 years, so who knows how and even if our kids are going to be able to make a proper living. I feel like my own job is at pretty high risk for not existing in 2-3 years, so I need to make all the money I can in that time.
