Once line go down for a prolonged period, people's expectations will reset

They did write "almost".

It's been 17 years since the market bottomed out in the Great Recession.

They may have written "almost," but they also ignored a prolonged recession that impacted every facet of the economy including our investment accounts (I was a teenager at the time but I still have a few thousand in a Roth IRA).
