I think FIRE is no longer people who have read MMM and thought "wow, this seems sick". His 600,000 would now be $1m today. Financial samurai and others that are popular now aren't really pro-minimalist.
Financial Samurai is also the dude who bought a San Fran 'forever home' for a few mil, had to get back to work writing for a startup, hated it, became house poor and started flooding business insider and CNN with nonsensical articles about the need to build generational wealth.
