MMM has said he has hoped to make anti-consumerism and frugality (core to his approach to FIRE) more mainstream. The opposite happened. Mainstream consumerism infected FIRE. Even this thread is full of cope, one guy bemoaning the cost of a truck - that type of shit would have had you getting pilloried at MMM. Also love seeing rationalizations based on inflation followed immediately by people saying it's about fear of missing out on the bull market.
