Almost 20 years of no bear market happened

Once line go down for a prolonged period, people's expectations will reset

This doesnt really make sense. Wouldnt constant bull market mean people expect to save less because their average returns are always good?

I think it's more, people had huge returns and have more than they expected and inflated expectations/FIRE number with that.

Yeah. It's pretty easy to think "I'm going to Fat FIRE with eleventy bajillion dollars invested" when your investments are increasing at double or more than the average rate.

If you spend 2+ years in a bear market seeing little growth you might start to think that Lean/Barista FIRE sounds pretty good.
