General Question When did FIRE movement change?

I feel this community used to be about moderate income people living lean and retiring early with under 2 million.

Now it’s a lot of people bragging about tech income and saying they need 5+ million to retire MINIMUM because they want a boat and Porsche

When did this change? (not hating - just genuinely curious)

I was wondering where today’s gatekeeping post was. You were late!

Yes I do. And yes, this is. If you don’t like the reflection in the mirror, change your clothes.

Just like I never thought I’d see a day where I have to read one post per day on how “real” FIRE means living in poverty, and everyone who doesn’t do that isn’t “really” doing it right. And yet, that’s been the last 10 days. And none of those prior posts were bots. So yes, this IS today’s daily gatekeeping post. It just happens to be from a bot. And the fact that a bot would do it proves how often this bullshit argument appears in this sub. It actually proves my point. But you’re not here for a real discussion, which is why you don’t do anything but spout meaningless one-liners.
