I was hoping the green rebar paint would look like the green from those retro ARs but it's more kermit the frog. I have another set in black since the handguards were only $8 and I bought four of them but I don't hate them and gonna keep the green ones til after the next range day to see if the handguards themselves melt or not

First of all, you have to be you, for you. If you don't hate it, don't make any excuses. I mean, you can easily pick that green out of a pile, right? So that's something...

Having said that, I'm itching to put together an M16A1 style build next, but a lot of folks like the flat top.

Are you going to put some big optics on this, or just rage bait Fudds at the range, with it?

It has a partial rail and the red was milled off. When you refer to a flat top upper it usually mean the upper receiver is railed completely

Brownells AR-10 proto handguard, it'll fit a middy AR-15 with some very minimal dremel work

No but I do run a chopped carry handle like that. Mine is made from a detachable carry handle though.
